- It's OK but nothing to shout about.

I've read the other reviews on this 2CD package, and I'd have to agree with most of the comments.

Janick Gers replaces Adrian Smith on guitar, and it's like having two Dave Murray's in the band. I preferred the melodious sounds of Adrian Smith and the pummeling riffs of Dave Murray together, instead of two guitarists playing the same style. Janick's guitar solo's are markedly different from those of Adrian Smith, and that can take long time Iron Maiden fans a little getting used to on the older songs. But Gers does play well on Maiden's newer material, to his credit.

The production of these discs are relatively weak, and Bruce's singing isn't at his best. This collection of live tunes offers Prowler, Transylvania, Where Eagles Dare, and Remember Tomorrow, that are not on the other live Iron Maiden releases. Beyond that, this collection doesn't really offer anything new to Maiden fans.

LIVE AT DONNINGTON is a better live recording then A REAL LIVE DEAD ONE, and DONNIGTON is almost a mirror recording of the second disc of A REAL DEAD ONE. Also, LIVE AFTER DEATH has most of the same songs as does disc 1 of A REAL LIVE DEAD ONE, and LIVE AFTER DEATH also sounds better then A REAL DEAD ONE.

Buy A REAL LIVE DEAD ONE if you're a die-hard wanting to complete your Iron Maiden catalog, but these metal legends have better offerings out there then this. If you're new to Iron Maiden, begin with Piece Of Mind and Powerslave.

- Who Mixed this?

A real Live dead one is the worst sounding Maiden album. It sounds like a better than average sound board bootleg. The whole band sounds like they're in a hurry to get off the stage. I enjoy "Live One" much more than "dead" mostly because we hadn't heard these songs live yet. I originaly got these when they were individually released back in the early 90's. The only true great live version out of the two is "fear of the Dark" and in my opinon, The only reason to buy this. If you want a great live album, stay with Live after Death, Live in rio, or Flight 666 they are all excelent. Death on the road is ok.

Up the Irons!!!!!

- Oh, give me a break! I thought this album was great.

This album, I thought sounded great. I just don't understand why everyone pans Iron Maiden's early 90's releases. Okay, so Adrian Smith is gone. So what? Janick Gers is so underrated. I think he's a great guitarist and don't really hear much of a difference between his and Smith's playing styles. Everyone seems to complain about the sound. I hear nothing wrong with it. Seriously, I don't understand why everyone is complaining about the sound quality. Sure it may not sound 110%. Well, IT'S LIVE DUMBASS!! By this time, Iron Maiden really matured in their music as heard on probably their best song, "Afraid to Shoot Strangers." This album and Live at Donington are victims of PREDIJUCE.

- almost a classic

Why would anyone buy the individual A Real Live One and A Real Dead One when you can get both with this set? This is a great Maiden double-disc live album, but without Adrian Smith. Very good, but would be a classic if Smith was on board for this one. I like having a disc of "classics" and a disc of "newer" Maiden. Great used deal 2 dollar music used here on Amazon. If you have Live After Death and want more live Maiden this is a great purchase. Highlights include Where Eagles Dare, Be Quick or Be Dead, Tailgunner, The Evil That Men Do, Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter.
