LCD Soundsystem Reveal Cover for May 18th LP “This Is Happening”Just when we were growing fond of calling LCD Soundsystem’s upcoming album “TBA,” James Murphy and Co. revealed today on their DFA Records site that the band’s third album will have a proper title, This Is Happening. The cover image features a stylistic motif reminiscent of David Bowie’s Lodger, and as listeners will discover when This Is H

New Reviews: Broken Bells, Jimi Hendrix and BRMCLast week RS talked up Gorillaz’s Plastic Beach in New Reviews, so today we’re spotlighting Breaking band Broken Bells, a collaboration between the Shins’ James Mercer and Demon Days producer Danger Mouse. The pairing might seem like a strange match, but as Will Hermes writes in his four-star review of Broken Bells, “It turns out the two pop-science geeks are a perfect match. Danger Mouse pushes Mercer’s gorgeous, existential tunecraft outward with Day-Glo dynamics.” Mercer’s lyrics are at their

Beatles + Metallica = BeatallicaJust a few years back, Beatles mash-ups were all the rage (The Grey Album, anyone?), but the trend died down — until now. Enter Beatallica, a band that creates original tunes in the vein of Weird Al by melding melodic Beatles’ tracks with Metallica’s raw power. Their third album, appropriately titled Sgt. Hetfield’s Motorbreath Pub Band, comes out today and features tracks like “Blackended the U.S.S.R.” and “Helvester of Skelter.” Intrigued? Download “Revol-Ooh-Tion” for yourself to hear what James Hetfield might sound like fronting the Fab Four. Download “Revol-Ooh-Tion”

Comment of the Week: “Evil Urges” At the Super Bowl?Photo: Getty After Springsteen’s Super Bowl halftime show, we asked our readers to tell us who they think should next play 12 minutes on the world’s biggest stage in front of hundreds of millions of viewers. We got suggestions for Guns n’ Roses, Led Zeppelin and Huey Lewis & The News, but it was Jim James — or at least someone pretending to be Jim James — who got our attention: “My band is the #1 live act in music right now. My Morning Jacket deserves to burn the faces off all the people who do not know we exist. Can you imagine ‘One Big Holiday’ at the halftime show?” Relax, “Jim James.” You just sold out Madison Square Garden on New Year’s Eve, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Still, here’s hoping MMJ rock halftime at Super Bowl LXVII.
