Rewind: The Week in Rock DailyPhoto: Wargo/WireImage Chris Brown enrolled in anger management classes as the fallout from his alleged altercation with Rihanna resulted in Brown’s role getting “erased” from the promotion of his upcoming film. Despite the backlash, Ne-Yo insisted Brown is “still my homeboy” while Kanye West showed some support for the beleaguered R&B singer. Slumdog Millionaire and Sean Penn were the big winners at the 81st Annual Academy Awards, as were Styx after being randomly referenced in an acceptance speech. Plus, Rolling Stone movie critic Peter Travers wrote about what sucked and what didn’t at this year’s ceremony. Our personal Oscar highlight? The Jimmy Eat World covers at the Prince afterparty. After a decade of waiting, Faith No More revealed plans to reunite for a European tour. Rock Daily also analyzed what other long-shot reunions might happen, and we dedicated our Rock List to 1980s Hard Rock Singles like their “We Care a Lot.” The Live Nation/Ticketmaster merger went to Washington for a hearing in front of the antitrust subcommittee. The hearing soon became a battle over the Chicago music scene, while Van Halen, Shakira and Seal all voiced their support of the merger. Who doesn’t support the merger? Bruce Springsteen fans, even after Ticketmaster settled that ticketing fiasco with the Attorney General of New Jersey.

Rewind: The Week In Rock Daily It was a very Rolling Stones-centric week here at Rock Daily, as Mick and Keith appeared on the new cover (along with Jack White) to support their concert film Shine a Light. RollingStone.com featured exclusive video from the photo shoot, plus a gallery showing the history of the Rolling Stones in concert. Velvet Revolver dumped Scott Weiland, who had no love lost for his now-former bandmates. In an exclusive interview, Slash told us this was a long time coming and that the group would be looking for a new singer (we’re providing him with some suggestions). And really, we should have seen this coming. Rock Daily logged plenty of frequent flier miles: We went to San Francisco to see Ray Davies, San Antonio for Paramore and Jimmy Eat World, London for Radiohead and Vancouver for Eddie Vedder. The bean counters in the music industry got some interesting news, as both Jay-Z and U2 hopped into bed with Live Nation. Elsewhere, MySpace formed like Voltron with some big-time music labels and iTunes claimed market dominance over Wal-Mart.

Foo Fighters Promise “Big Noise” and “Biggest Songs” on Tour With Jimmy Eat World, Against Me! When Foo Fighters take the stage at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, tomorrow night to kick off their latest trek across North America, they will be embracing their inner stadium rockers to the max. “We’re proud to be an arena rock band,” says drummer and group cheerleader Taylor Hawkins. “We enjoy doing the bigass shows—making big noise with big toys.” They’ll take that big approach on their first domestic tour since the release of the critially and commercially successful new alb

Paramore and Jimmy Eat World Roll Out Their Road Show in San Antonio For more exclusive photos from this show, click here. Consider the “internal issues” officially dealt with. Though Paramore cancelled a handful of European dates amidst rumors of breakup and pregnancy, it appears as though the group has worked through the normal everyday problems that afflict a young band learning to grind it out on the road. It couldn’t have come at a better time, too, as Paramore were refreshed and vibrant as they kicked off a U.S. tour opening for Jimmy Eat World, the emo elders who gave the young upstarts a reason to emote in the first place. Last night at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas — night one of a twenty-gig run — Paramore proved their Grammy nomination for Best New Artist wasn’t a fluke, as they buzzsawed through their big, hooky catalog of songs, particularly blowing up on “Born for This,” “crushcrushcrush” and “For a Pessimist, I’m Pretty Optimistic.” A third axeman bolstered the guitar assaults unleashed during regular headbanging sessions. To their cameraphone-waving fans, the big payoff was closer “Misery Business,” the song with its own T-shirt. Shutterbugs gave way to crowd surfers for Jimmy Eat World’s set. It opened with the killer left-right combo of “Big Casino” (off their 2007 album Chase This Light) followed by the old-school jam “Sweetness.” Paramore’s raw energy was obviously rubbing off on the road veterans from Arizona. Despite singer Jim Adkins’ somewhat bitter complaints about their tour geography (”We could have started this tour on the West Coast. We could have started this tour on the East Coast. But no….”), the band’s bright, shiny anthems gave the amped-up crowd a Texas-sized evening of glorious emo catharsis. Check out more photos from the show here. Foo Fighters: “We’re Already Working on Songs” Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel says the band is already crafting new music despite just releasing Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace in September 2007. “We’re already working on songs. Got a handful of ‘em already that we’re working on at soundcheck, which has never really happened, so we’re getting a headstart,” Mendel tells the Rock Radio. “The band’s in a good place. Everyone’s really excited about it, excited about making music, so we’re already getting going.” With the band on tour through the end of the year promoting Echoes, which won the Grammy for Best Rock Album earlier this month, the Foos’ next album likely won’t be out until mid-2009. News Ticker: Paramore, Snoop Dogg, U.K. vs. ISPs, Kinks After “internal issues” forced Paramore to cancel their European tour, lead singer Hayley Williams blogged today that the band has not broken up, that they are just going through some hard times and that she was disappointed in some of the rumors floating around the web about her. The band plans to shoot a video in Nashville in March before kicking off their tour with Jimmy Eat World . Snoop Dogg was issued a “desk appearance ticket” after being caught with marijuana in his possession in New York City on Wednesday. In an effort to cut down on the nearly six million illegal downloaders in the U.K., a government proposal there may force ISPs to curb the downloading or face sanctions. While a Kinks reunion is still being discussed, Ray Davies is hopeful that a reunion will happen. Judging by our Kinks album guide, we share that optimism. [Photo: Getty]
