News Ticker: Metallica, “Rock Band,” Allman Brothers, David Byrne With their new album due out later this year, Metallica is whetting their fans’ appetites with a new site called “Mission Metallica.” The band entices fans to “Experience the album… before it’s done.” The site will launch in May. MTV announced that Rock Band will begin selling full album downloads. First up: Judas Priest’s Screaming for Vengeance on April 22nd. The Allman Brothers have canceled this year’s run at NYC’s Beacon Theatre due to Gregg Allman’s recovery from Hepatitis C. The band promises to return to the venue in 2009 to celebrate their fortieth anniversary. Twenty-seven years after collaborating on My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, David Byrne and Brian Eno are working on a new album, due out in 2009. The duo will reportedly tour together as well.

Festival Roundup: Ozzy Joins Monsters of Rock, GZA and De La Soul Lead Paid Dues What’s a Wednesday in April without the announcement of more summer festivals? We’ll start off in rock-happy Calgary, Alberta, where Ozzy Osbourne will perform at this year’s Monsters of Rock festival on July 26th. Blige, Panic at the Disco and Sheryl Crow will be among the artists that will perform on the second season of Sundance Channel series Live From Abbey Road. Metal icons Judas Priest will release their sixteenth album, a double-length entitled Nostradamus, on June 17th. The band’s first concept album will tell the story of the legendary sixteenth century prophet Michel de Nostradamus. Jay-Z will join Radiohead and My Bloody Valentine as a headliner at this year’s Roskilde Festival, to be held in July 3-6 in Denmark. Rapper Frank Lucas Jr., son of American Gangster focus Frank Lucas, is suing the NYPD for $25 million, claiming the police used excessive force and racially profiled him during an arrest in March.

RIP Paul Gray 1972 - 2010According to the Associated Press, the body Slipknot bassist Paul Gray was discovered this morning (May 24) in a room in the Town Plaza hotel in the band's home town of Des Moines, Iowa. He was 38 years old. No further details are available at this time, although local police say they intend to carry out an autopsy to determine the cause of his death tomorrow (Tuesday, May 25).
