Paul McCartney Revives The Fireman For New Album

Photo: Gharabli/Getty Paul McCartney will reassume his electronic identity The Fireman on November 13th with a new album dubbed Electric Arguments, the third collaboration between Macca and producer/Killing Joke bassist Youth. Electric Arguments is the duo’s first album since 1998’s Rushes. The album’s 13 songs were written over the course of 13 days spread over one year, with each song being written and recorded in only one day. The track “Lifelong Passion (Sail Away)” was released in June as a download to fans who donated to Adopt-A-Minefield. The album’s opening song “Nothing Too Much Just Out of Sight” is expected to premiere tonight on BBC Radio. Paul McCartney Album “Should Be Ready By the Summer,” Morello Record Also Due

Just seven months after the release of Memory Almost Full, Sir Paul McCartney is already brewing up a new album. According to his publicist, “Paul started recording last week, but he has been writing for a while. It should be ready by the summer.” McCartney is reportedly working with producer Youth, a founding member of the band Killing Joke and the producer of albums such as the Verve’s Urban Hymns and, in some capacity, Guns N’ Roses’ long-delayed Chinese Democracy. Not to be outdone by McCartney’s prolificacy is Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, who released his first solo album as the Nightwatchman in April 2007. Despite touring as both a member of the reunited Rage and as a solo entity, a second solo album is already near completion, with the working title of The Fabled City in place. While no release date is set, Morello expects the album out later this year.

Jay-Z Plots “Gangster” Tour, L.A. Reid Backs Up Nas’ Album Title, Ministry Bassist Paul Raven Found Dead

Jay-Z will embark on a brief, five-date American Gangster Live tour in support of his new album, which will include shows at mid-size venues in Los Angeles, Chicago, Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia. The trek is set to begin on November 6th, the same day the album hits stores (dates after the jump). Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid has spoken out on Nas‘ decision to name his December 11th album Nigger, saying, “Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him.” But Reverend Al Sharpton is continuing his crusade to make using the word a hate crime, saying Nas is “helping out the racists.” Killing Joke and later Ministry bassist Paul Raven was found dead in his home in Geneva on Saturday by fellow musician Ted Parsons. Raven died at the age of forty-six of a heart attack. He was in Switzerland recording with French industrial band Treponem Pal. AT&T will make Napster’s five-million-song catalog available for downloading through wireless access. AT&T has not announced which devices will work with the service, but songs will cost $1.99 each or $7.49 for five per month. Slash and Trent Reznor’s campaign to make the Sex Pistols’ “God Save the Queen” the number-one single fell far short of its goal, with the track peaking at forty-two thirty years after Rod Stewart swiped the top spot from the band. The single fared much better on vinyl, which probably says a lot about the downloading habits of the Sex Pistol’s core demographic. David Banner Has Five Big Complaints (and Oprah is One)

Rolling Stone rang up rapper and humanitarian extraordinarie David Banner recently to chat about the Congressional hearings examining the impact of hip-hop lyrics (where he, along with Master P, testified) and caught the articulate onetime Southern University student-government president in a particularly chatty mood. In fact, he shared with us five major complaints he has about the government, people who act fake, racism and Oprah. 1. Hip-hop still has a bad rap: “I’ve got this joke that I tell people all time: If a Cambodian immigrant got pregnant by a Chihuahua, they would blame it on hip-hop. I saw not just Congress, but America using hip-hop as a conduit to attack poor people. And they admitted in Congress that things you see are more detrimental than things that you hear, but movies, they don’t talk about Scorsese, they’re not talking about Steven Spielberg or Stephen King, and I’m wondering, ‘How can they do hard movies and I can’t do hard music?’” 2. Racism prevents David Banner from rocking like the Police or Johnny Cash: “One of my top three groups in the world is the Police. I love the old Police with Sting and the drummer holding the drum sticks the old-school drumline way … I happen to fall upon ‘Murder By Numbers.’ [Sings] ‘Murder by numbers, one, two, three … easy to learn as your A, B, Cs.’ He said in the song the best way to kill a man is put poison in his coffee. You look at ‘Wrapped Around Your Finger,’ that was a stalker song. Johnny Cash said he wanted to kill a man just for the sake of killing him. But that’s ‘art.’ So basically what you’re telling me is that [rap is] not art because we’re black.” 3. Oprah is wack (and all anyone really wants is Sex and the City): “Come on, Oprah.
