Kittie Album: “Funeral For Yesterday”

Kittie Album: “Funeral For Yesterday”
Description :
Kittie: Morgan Lander (vocals, guitar); Tara McLeod (guitar); Mercedes Lander (piano, drum, background vocals); Trish Doan (bass instrument).
The Canadian all-girl band's smart yet straight-to-the-gut brand of metal has stayed a constant despite a head-spinning number of personnel changes since its 1999 debut album, SPIT. With such a firm foundation, the band can afford to dabble in a variety of styles, which it does here in full effect. The title track is chugging yet melodic heavy rock, and "Sweet Destruction" starts out as a chiming ballad, indicating there's some softness beneath the snarl, but the shredding rush of "Breathe" and the full-on roar of "This Too Shall Pass" carry the unmistakable stamp of a slash-and-burn metal band out for blood.
DVD Features:
Includes DVD

- Kittie at their peak

Kittie's albums have been up and down for me since I was introduced to them with "Spit". To say that I wasn't thrilled with their last album "Until the End" is saying it lightly, but thankfully, "Funeral For Yesterday" finds the metal band led by sisters Morgan and Mercedes Lander at their musical peak. Technically speaking, for having a revolving door of guitarists and bassists, Kittie sounds better here than they ever have before on any of their previous studio albums. The guitar work is wonderful, and this can be found on the title track, "Everything That Could Have Been", "Witch Hunt", and the excellent closing track "The Change". If there's any downside to "Funeral For Yesterday", it's similar to what was pointed out by a previous reviewer. Vocalist Morgan Lander seems to want to resemble Amy Lee more than herself at various points throughout this disc. Now this doesn't happen often, but it's noticable enough to catch. That aside, this is still Kittie at their technical peak, and "Funeral For Yesterday" only further goes to show that Kittie has always had the talent to rise above the nu-metal pack that they were associated with when they first burst upon the scene, and the fact that they survived that era is only further proof.

- Bringing back the metal!!

I think this album is excellent. I think the coolest thing about the album is the bonus DVD thats included. The footage on the DVD take you behind the scenes and the music video are complete plus. Let me get back into the music which is good from the beginning to end. The standout tracks are Funeral For Yesterday,Breathe,Never Again,Last Goodbye,This Too Shall Pass,Everything That Could Have Been,Witch Hunt to name almost all of the tracks a must buy!!

- They just get better and better

I started listening to Kittie when I was a kid and they still fail to surprise me. They have definitely gotten better over the years. This Album is proof of it.

- KEEP AN OPEN MIND-YOU PROB. COULDN'T DO MUCH BETTER

having been a fan since 'spit', i bought this the day it came out. i was kind of hoping for ORACLE vol. 2, what i got was much better.

while i really enjoy morgan's screaming/growling and was briefly disappointed this didn't have more, i quickly came to love this cd for what it is.

they are not trying to redo any of their previous albums, this is a semi-new direction for them. i say semi-new because this time around the idea is fully accomplished and much more focused.

the music is the best i've heard from them, in my opinion similar to some of the older metal bands of the 90s (megadeth, metallica, etc...) in some songs while not ripping anyone off.

there's a lot of people on here saying her vocals are terrible and that she should have screamed more...while i like her screaming, it would not have sounded right on a lot of these songs.

if someone who has never heard KITTIE before, but likes heavy music (esp. from the 90s) i think they will prob. like this cd. if you're just trying to compare it to stuff they've done in the past, VOCALLY, this is prob. not for you.

this has quickly become one of my favorite cds and the dvd is pretty cool (although i was hoping for a live performance or two)---can't complain about a free dvd though!

TO ALL THOSE WHO FEEL THIS IS TERRIBLE, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC/LYRICS ON THIS AND THEN LISTEN TO ANY OF THEIR OTHER CDS....NO COMPARISON.
