- This is the new faith

Yes!! Not only does Kreator toss out a superlative live album, but they accompany it with an equally excellent DVD. Rapture!

Shot in several spots around the world, this film highlights Kreator's powerful live presence. After starting out as a remarkably young trio on the "Endless pain" album, they have become somewhat less aggressive while gaining impressive technical skills. However, it is on stage they truly deliver the goods. A slight exception to this might be new Finnish lead guitarist Sami Yli-Silviö, who, while certainly comfortable onstage, doesn't really appear to be much of a thrashhead. His old outfit Waltari was never that hard anyway and, seriously, what kind of thrasher wears leather pants and high-heeled boots? Having said that, he's a great guitarist, and that is what counts here. The rest of the band, especially the giant drummer Ventor, gets a real workout, energizing the already powerful songs to get that extra edge.

I do miss certain songs, but all the classics are in place. Additionally, we get some music videos in the bonus section; I'd rather that they had played "Toxic trace" live, but as it is in the videos' section, I remain reasonably happy. Also, unlike many Kreator fans, I liked the "Endorama" album, and thus enjoyed the two videos from there as well. Finally, it is nice to see that old heroes like Candlemass' Messiah Marcolin and Dark Angel/Death's Gene Hoglan are still alive and kicking alongside new heroes like Arch Enemy's Angela Gossow, all of whom appear in little segments between songs.

With only one disc, this is just about as good as it gets. Of course, nothing is ever perfect, but this is sooooo close. Five easy stars.

- missing coma of souls video, but still good.

when i bought this dvd i was pretty anxious to see it. but i was a little let down by the live material. it has exellent sound and video, but the band is often bored looking. i usually love live shows but in this dvd the music videos are really better. these guys still kick major ass though. i really enjoyed the history part of the video where it shows early footage of the band on television with ventor (drums) singing. i would have really loved it if they had included the whole performance. another thing i noticed upon later viewing was that although the dvd claims to include all of thier music videos it is actually missing the "coma of souls" video. but all in all this is a good dvd. and worth the money for the price. hopfully another video will come out with older footage like that tv appearance some day.

- KREATORs Kreation A+

I just bought this last week and came in mail yesterday, WOW it is great, the 5.1 sound is super and as good as the enemy of god dvd (which is awsome too) there is over 3 hours of stuff and lots of music. Funny parts too like a security gaurd in poland asking millie is he has pass/id to let him in (he didnt know that he was lead person in band he thought he was a fan sneaking in) and more - I will definetly finish today it is great with lots of videos

lots of clips with other bands talking about Kreator at festivals like Angela Glassbury, Testament lead singer, and moonsorrow singer.

- A booster, though not optimally produced

The first official 2003 KREATOR dvd, with its cool cover design inserted in a sturdy jewel case, has quite a lot to please the fans:

1. A 90-minute concert from the 2002 Violent Revolution tour in Sao Paolo, Brazil and Busan, South Korea, interspersed with their tour footage in South America, South Korea, Eastern Europe, the U.K., Mexico and North America, and other parts of the world.

The backstage footage and the concert can be viewed simultaneously or separately in Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2.0

The live tracks taken from the gig in Sao Paolo are: The Patriach, Violent Revolution, Reconquering the Throne, Servant in Hell, Black Sunrise, Terrible Certainty, Riots of Violence, Lost, Coma of Souls, Terrorzone, and Betrayer. The rest are taken from their concert in Busan.

2. A documentary on the band history from 1982 to 2002 interspersed with videoclips in chronological order of their release: Toxic Trace, Betrayer, People of the Lie, Renewal, Lost, Isolation, Leave this World Behind, Endorama, Chosen Few, and Violent Revolution.

The documentary, with subtitles, and the clips can be viewed separately

in Dolby Digital 2.0

3. Two bonus live tracks in black and white, recorded in Dolby Digital 2.0: Flag of Hate and Tormentor from their 2002 tour in Wacken.

4. A complete discography and a dvd connector providing up-to-date news about the band.

However, there are SOME SERIOUS RESERVATIONS on the visual and audio presentation of the feature show in Sao Paolo and Busan, which affect the overall quality of this release:

1. The dvd was produced in 2003, which means that the picture quality could have been enhanced for widescreen televisions. Unfortunately, this is non-existent.The picture is presented in a matted non-anamorphic widescreen format, and is grainy , dark and blurry.

2. Added to the sub-standard picture quality is the poor directing and editing. Several cameras are used and the angles are often changed haphazardly from one camera to another resulting in fuzzy pictures. We often cannot see clearly what is shown on the screen.

To make the quality worse, black and white is unnecessarily employed to the ocassionally unfocused shots. On a stage set with smoke fans and flashy strobe lights, this is defintely not an intelligent idea. The impression one gets while watching this concert is that the director is trying to show a raw, underground feel to it, which is not completely successful.

Had all the pictures been focused and colored and the lighting been properly set, the whole concert would have been more pleasant to watch.

3. The sound mix in Dolby Digital 5.1 is sharp with adequate bass punches

though it could have been made more aggressive. When the 5.1 is played, for example, the vocals become submerged by the piercing guitars making it hard to hear what Mille, the vocalist, is saying .The one in 2.0 is also marginally satisfactory. Overall, the mixing is of average quality.

All in all, this being the ONLY KREATOR dvd so far is worth considering if one does not mind the sub-standard production. The redeeming feature is the spirit KREATOR tries to give to their fans through their head-banging,heart-pounding and ear-deafening music. Watching them perform live is one way to pump up your energy, give you an energy boost, so to speak. That is, if can put up with the noise and enjoy it.
