The Roots Recruit TV on the Radio, Public Enemy, Santigold for Philadelphia PicnicPhoto: Fusco/Getty This morning Billboard broke the news that The Roots will take a time out from serving as Jimmy Fallon’s house band when the hip-hop collective stage the second annual Roots’ Picnic on June 6th at their Philadelphia hometown’s Liberty Pier. Joining the Roots, who will play both the day’s opening and closing sets, are TV on the Radio, Public Enemy, the Black Keys and a fellow Philly native, Santigold. As if the Roots weren’t busy enough, they’ll also serve as Public Enemy’s backing band when the rappers perform their It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back in its entirety, marking the first time a live band has backed Public Enemy for the album. Also participating in the festivities: The Pipes featuring Zoe Kravitz, Busdriver and — spinning between sets — DJ Jazzy Jeff of Fresh Prince fame as well as DJ Cash Money. On the second stage, the City of Brotherly Love will get performances by Kid Cudi, Asher Roth, Back to Basics and more. Overall, this is the best thing to ever happen to Philadelphia, better than the Liberty Bell, the cheesesteak and the Phillies’ World Series win last year. If you can’t wait until June to catch Public Enemy and the Roots in action, Chuck D and Flavor Flav will be the musical guests on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this coming Monday, March 16th. Rock Daily recently talked to the Roots while the band rehearsed upwards of 200 songs in preparation for their nightly gig as Fallon’s house band. For much more from ?uestlove and the rest of the crew, check out our exclusive behind-the-scenes video here: Up Past Midnight With The Roots: Hanging With Jimmy Fallon’s New House Band

Seacrest Sniffles Update: 'He Had The Flu' Says E!, But Managed to Make A Magazine Cover Shoot This PM! [Sick Notes]Until Ryan Seacrest called in sick for last night's SAG Awards, we'd always just kinda assumed that E! had procured him in from the hallowed halls of the Cyberdnye Systems Corporation. Turns out that maybe, just maybe, he is human after all. We just got a call from E! letting us know that Ry Guy had (gasp!) "the flu" last night. But, as with any ongoing investigation, there's always more. Moments ago, a source at Details Magazine told us that Seacrest managed to show up at Pier 59 in Los Angeles on-time and ready to shoot their April cover. Says our source: "He really is sick! But every other actor shows up to our call times like, hours late, and Ryan came right on time, germs and all."We are suddenly overwhelmed with newfound respect for the jolly jokester, but also find ourselves haunted by one burning question: how bad of a flu could he POSSIBLY have had if he was unable to cover the Most Important Red Carpet™ of our time yet was able to successfully complete his radio show early this morning AND show up to an hours-long shoot in a stuffy LA studio? As always, with these things, we leave you with this ... DEVELOPING!

Was Star Jones Too Skinny For Ex-Flame Al Reynolds? When word was announced a few weeks ago that Hollywood Mega-Couple Al Reynolds and "House Hunters" Host Star Jones were getting a divorce, the collective world sat down in a corner and began violently rocking itself back and forth, as its entire definition of "loving relationships" had been shaken to its very core. So what was the problem? Where did true love go wrong? Well, perhaps we're literally putting the "ass" in "assume"... but is it possible Star got too thin for the cushion-pushin' Reynolds? When Al and Star first began their whirlwind romance, Star was... a heftier gal. (Picture the dead whale stuck beneath the San Fran pier.) But a top secret gastric bypass surgery had Ms. Jones literally melting before our very eyes, leaving her with a basic human skeleton, some skin, and basketball eyes. It seems flesh-loving Al was looking for greener asstures, as documented by this item in today's NY Post: FRESH off his split from Star Jones, Al Reynolds is back on the town. He hit club Home late last week with a new buxom lady friend, where he was drinking and dancing till the wee hours. "He was at the bar with her. She was a pretty big girl," said a cocktail waitress at the club. "They were dancing to hip-hop and bobbing their heads. He had on a white button-down [shirt], open with a diamond necklace hanging out. And he was drinking all night with his pinky in the air." Has anyone ever used the term Hefterosexuals, referring to "Chubby Chasers"? Well, consider us the first. Which means that, yes, Al Reynolds is totally Heftero. By the way, the item ends with this absolute doozy of an image: Also there was Sean Combs, who, oddly, sat in a corner reading a book. It had to be this, right?

Hollywood PrivacyWatch: Oscar Winner Forest Whitaker Indulges Patriotic Feelings At Santa Monica PierPrivacyWatch celebrity sightings are submitted by our readers, and are posted several times a week, so send them in often. Submit yours to tips[AT]defamer.com (please put "sighting" or "PrivacyWatch" in the subject line) and tell everyone about the night Mr. Belding tore up "Don't Stop Believin'" in front of a packed Metal Skool crowd. In today's episode: Forest Whitaker; Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox; Amaury Nelasco; Evan Handler; David Arquette; Jackie Earl Haley; Jason Lee and Giovanni Ribisi; Luke Perry; Michael Rapaport; Rob Zombie; Dr. Drew Pinsky; Julie Bowen; Ron Leibman; Neil Patrick Harris; Jackie Warner; Jeffrey Ross; Dennis Haskins, Ryan Cabrera and Simple Plan; Henry Rollins; and Kristin Cavallari.· July 4th - I didn't see any half-naked starlets/socialites, but I did catch an Oscar winner. While having a leisurely late lunch at Shutters, I spotted Forest Whitaker and his lovely family enjoying a stroll toward the Santa Monica Pier. · July 4th Eve - 4 network stars. Walking across the Sunset Tower/Tower Bar driveway my 6'2" friend by my side enjoyed a sighting reserved for the tall. He peered in to the burkha-like slit in a black Range Rover's driver side window to spy NBC's Jennifer Aniston attempting to turn left on to Sunset while lighting up a smoke. Courteney Cox riding shotgun. (9:50 PM). Later at the opening of Charcoal at the Arclight complex, FOX's Amaury Nelasco (Prison Break) was lurking in the back corner (navy button down, dark jeans, platinum chunky chain, bald head). The owner attached himself at the waist to him all night, but Amaury had no friends in sight. Blonde chick in a white dress who "kinda" knew who he was was "kinda" trying to get on him. He left without her. But the Emmy worthy sighting of my night was "Dave", Hurley's imaginary friend from the mental ward from ABC's "Lost". (Evan Handler). He was at Lubavitch, the "I didn't get in to Winston's" bar on Santa Monica early (10:15 ish), drinking Stella Artois b

les:: falling down :: Up to the late 1950s many liners and ferries left Liverpool from the Princes Landing Stage at the Pier Head. As the city went into decline during the 60s most of the landing stage was removed, or fell down. This is the remains of the only building to survive, the Ticket Collector's Kiosk at the north end. You can just imagine the many travellers queueing up to present their tickets to far away lands and then embarking to new adventures. Times change though and a new Cruise Shi

You get so used to technology that you forget what it once was like...44kps at the moment. This is a shot from my recent trip to New York and my first attempt to do long exposures. floogsfotos:: THE PIER :: SIDNEY BY THE SEA, BRITISH COLUMBIA CANADA APRIL 17 2007 The warm, heavily scented air of a Mid April evening cascades around as we stroll hand in hand along our favourite walk. With these very steps, we retrace those we made on countless occasions with mum in tow, the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings far from lost on these English eyes. To the Pier in Sidney, where we stand and gaze out to sea, amidst a swirling fanfare of thermal gliding birds, displaying a graceful and balletic ariel extravaganza to everyone's delight. The sky is rapidly changing hue, with the golden glow of late afternoon giving way reticently to the cool night air, and the old fish market, though closed, lights up the promenade just over the way, where we caught boats to other islands, where we raced, snowbound along gathering up handfuls of white powdery substance in our hands and screamed like children as we made snow angels on the ground. Such beauty, such serenity in this town, such sadness that mum is no longer here to enjoy her favourite sight, the Pier.
