You can hear the hiphop influences in almost every track--from the lead single, "Nookie," to the DJ Premier-produced "N 2 Gether Now." Other highlights include "Break Stuff," "Just Like This," and "I'm Broke." Be sure to check out the Durst-directed video for "Nookie," as it shows just how multi-talented Limp Bizkit really is.

Let me tell you a story. It's about a band that becomes a megamillion dollar commercial success, using only a mangled cover of a George Michael song and some whiny, childish, badly-mixed wanna-be rap tracks. Sound like a fairy tale?

Sorry. It's Significant Other from Florida's very own Limp Bizkit.

Wow....Limp Bizkit. How the mighty have fallen. Remember when "Nookie" was all you would ever hear on MTV? Now Fred Durst would probably give his left nut just to be mentioned on VH1, let alone MTV. The musical times have changed. The rap-rock genre that LB sold millions of records doing business in is over. Back then, hardcore music fans hated LB for doing what was trendy. Now LB's hated for not doing what's trendy. With the hardcore / screamo / emo movement at rock's forefront, bands like LB will soon "too outdated". And that's a bit of a shame.

While LB definitely aren't as talented as some of today's "in" bands like Unearth or Avenged Sevenfold, that's not to say that the guys didn't have a knack for writing amazing catchy, and sometimes even beautiful songs. While Durst's useless chants of "c'mon!" and "it's Limp Bizkit baby!" don't plague this album as much as they do Bizkit's newer releases, they're still hear and still rather silly. But look past that, and you'll find that Limp Bizkit is a bunch of young, energetic musicians, fronted by an equally young and energetic, but cocky, vocalist, and all they wanted to do was make some hard rock music.

Now, I just listened to this album again recently, and it was the first time in a long, long while. The track "Nookie" still pumps me up, even though I now realize how ridiculous lyrics like "So you can take that cookie / And stick it up your...", I still found the track powerful. The bass grooves, the drums are slamming, and the guitars, while not amazing, complex or really all that creative, were really catchy. Keep in mind that Limp Bizkit was my favorite band from the Significant Other-CSATHFW era, in which I was aged 9-late 11 or early 12, before I really knew much about lyrics or music. It was just catchy pop-rock. Now it's still catchy pop-rock, but man, I really see that there's some underrated music on here. "Rearranged" is still a beautiful song, with actually decent lyrics by Durst. "Trust?" is the heaviest track here, and it will no doubt pump you up, that is if you'll allow yourself to be pumped up to a Bizkit tune. "No Sex" is a beautiful song, despite the lyrics which could ruin it, if it wasn't for the beautiful way it was sung by fellow-nu-metal has been band Staind's vocalist Aaron Lewis.

Listening to this album from an older point of view, I can see that Limp Bizkit were definitely deserving of the popularity they got. A talented band, that's the bottom line, who wrote really, really catchy radio-rock songs. Now that bands like My Chemical Romance and The Used are what you see when MTV actually decides to play a rock video, I really begin to miss what we used to get with LB. Where as MCR and TU all sound basically the same, nu-metal, at least at first, had variety. Really, I think LB sounds nothing like Korn, and no one really sounds like the Deftones. It really is a shame to see a band that used to be on top of the world be hard pressed to find any publicity at all for their new album (the seemingly horrible Unquestionable Truth, Pt. 1), but we do have remnants of their reign, and I, with tongue in cheek, listen to them, and enjoy them thoroughly. It was nice knowing you, Limp Bizkit.

- Very First Rock CD I Ever Purchased

I never listened to any hard metal or rock music...this is my very first. I've always had the notion that rock music is just about drugs, sex and all other stupid or weird things. This album has well written creative songs that speak to your soul. I love the beat of every song, that I actually listen to it everytime I workout at the gym. FRED DURST is the man!Very talented, very smart and knows exactly what good music is all about. I don't have a copy of their first album <$3 dollar) yet, but I'm definitely going to get one. GET THE CD and you won't regret it!
