LSG

Disco de LSG: “LeVert-Sweat-Gill”

Descripción (en inglés) :
LSG: Gerald Levert (vocals, keyboards, drums, programming); Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill (vocals).
Additional personnel: Edwin "Tony" Nicholas, Darryl "Delite" Allamby, Allan "Grip" Smith (various instruments); Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, MC Lyte, Faith Evans, Coko, The Lox, Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, Jazze Pha, Jermaine Dupri (vocals); Craig T. Cooper (talk box, guitar); Randy Bowland, Robert Latham (guitar); Tumblin' Dice, Inc. (keyboards, programming); Niles Mc Kimkley (keyboards); Cliff Colson (bass).
Producers include: Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Jermaine Dupri, Edwin "Tony" Nicholas.
Engineers include: Steve L. Croom, Karl Heilbron, Phil Tann, Kevin "E.Q." Stone, Victor "Lundon" Jones.
Having had staggering success in the R&B world on their own, Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill united their prodigious talents on LEVERT-SWEAT-GILL. Levert has a proven track record, both as a solo artist and with his group Levert. Keith Sweat has made his mark both as a performer and as a producer. Johnny Gill first found stardom at 16 with the legendary New Edition, parlaying that group's success into a stellar solo career.
At home on either side of the mixing desk, they were able to take complete control of the project, as performers, producers and as writers. This is not to say they didn't enlist some fellow superstars to contribute--guest producers include Sean "Puffy" Combs ("You Got Me," which features rap group The Lox) and Jermaine Dupri ("Where Did I Go Wrong"). LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, and MC Lyte appear on "Curious," and "All The Times" features the talents of Faith Evans and Missy Elliot, but the lighthearted "Door #1" is all LSG, turning the playful competition between the trio of hitmakers into a mock game show, and rounding out LEVERT-SWEAT-GILL as an R&B masterpiece which successfully covers the whole emotional spectrum.

- The best R&B album not only of '98, but maybe of all time!!

If you don't have this album, it's not too late to get it. There is not one wack track on this album, although the trendy "Let a Playa Get His Freak On" comes pretty close (but even that track can grow on you). Sure, you have the necessary superproducers on here (Puff, JD, Missy), but they do a good job with providing the group with solid material, which is good for Johnny Gill, who's recently had the problem on his solo albums with singing lackluster lyrics over boring instrumentals.

If there are any songs that are better than the others, they have to be the ones Gerald Levert wrote and produced ("Door #1", "Drove Me to Tears", and the standout, "My Side of the Bed"). And the fact that this album is under 60 minutes shows that Levert, Sweat and Gill can deliver the goods without the use of skits, medleys, interludes, or remixes of their songs on the same album.

Now if only we can get them to make another album to show these dumb boy bands like B2K and Ruff Endz how to do it...PLEASE? Come back, it's been four years!

- Sincerely, I can say that we should have met before today...

When you take three of the best male voices in r&b how can you expect to get anything other than good results. Even though the CD is only 12 tracks long, LSG put together a classic CD. Anyone that likes good slow jams about love, lost love, and good memories of past relationships should have a copy of this CD. "All The Times" f/ Faith Evans, Coko, and Missy Elliott is definitely one of the best slow jams of the entire 1990s. Other highlights include "On My Side Of The Bed", "Drove Me To Tears", "Love Hurts" and the classic single "My Body". The slow jams are the best thing about this CD, but the uptempo songs are up to par as well. Hopefully there will one day be another LSG CD.

- A MUST BUY CD

Johnny Gill is a great balladeer. When you see his name attached to a piece of music, you know you have a winner. Just like a actor, just on the premise that he's in it you know it's a good movie. Gerald LeVert is also another wonderful singer, he comes from a long generation of them. As for Keith Sweat, he really produces some good tracks as we. Hey Mr. Gill, if you see this, when are you going to do another album, we're waiting?

- Lots of memories

I am so glad I bought this cd (again). When I listen to the songs now, they bring back so many memories. Listening to one track, I realized that it was a song that my son, at age 2, would mimic because he was learning his ABC's and the song starts off with the singers saying the letters of their last names. Too cute. Now, I play it for him (age 13) and recount the story about how he enjoyed repeating what the singers said while sitting in his little car seat. I'll have to never lose this cd again!
