Maroon 5’s Adam Levine Recalls the Band’s Early Days, How They Incorporated R&B: Exclusive Audio As you may have realized by glancing at our Web site, Maroon 5 is on the cover of the current issue of Rolling Stone. Contributing editor Gavin Edwards sat down with the quintet to discuss everything from their explosive inter-band battles to the moment frontman Adam Levine realized Maroon 5 would have a career beyond their first album. Listen in on a bit of their conversation here: Adam Levine discusses Kara’s Flowers — the teenage iteration of Maroon 5 — and reminisces about playing shows at L.A. clubs when he and his bandmates were still in high school. Levine talks about the song “Not Falling Apart” and explains how his approach to music changed as the band adopted a more R&B influence.

Exclusive Audio: Maroon 5 Make the Ladies Swoon Looking dapper in dark suits, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and James Valentine drew a largely female crowd when they swung by our offices for lunch this Wednesday. The guys regaled us with stories about the making of their new album, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long. “We went to Vegas to write, which was a terrible mistake as you can probably imagine,” Levine said. “But for me it actually works because I have ADD, so if I go to Vegas I can actually focus.” We were also beyond flattered when Levine let us know not once, but twice that he wants to work for Rolling Stone. You can keep your eyes peeled to see if his dream becomes a reality, but for now take a listen to some of what the guys shared with us. On how John Mayer loves Maroon 5…and it’s all because of Hanson [listen] On the band’s new album sounding “reminiscent” of the Police: [listen] On how the only person who knows the truth behind Maroon 5’s name is…Billy Joel! Maroon 5 - It Won't Be Soon Before Long Artist: Maroon 5 Review: Released in 2002, Maroon 5's Songs About Jane didn't win its new-artist Grammy until 2005, a lonely twenty-first-century monument of artist development. Descrying bankable hits in Adam Levine's love for the funk and knack for the hook, private investors and then Clive Davis worked it till it gushed oil. So the only surprising thing about It Won't Be Soon Before Long is its complete avoidance of sophomore slump. Justin Timberlake is subtler and will remain the hipster's popster --...
