Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell Preview Projekt Revolution Linkin Park’s annual Projekt Revolution Tour kicks off tonight outside of Boston, so Rock Daily sat down with LP’s Chester Bennington and co-headliner Chris Cornell to talk about this summer’s jaunt. “What I like about doing a touring festival, especially Projekt Rev, is the fact these are bands that I can get really excited about since I’m part of the reason they’re there. For me to be able to bring out Mindless Self Indulgence — a band that I’ve always liked and I’ve felt that they’ve never really gotten the love that they deserve — to see them show up and play with another band like Saosin and 5,000 kids are showing up at noon, just like, ‘Yes, it’s happening.’” Click below for more on Projekt Revolution (which also features the Bravery, Busta Rhymes, Ashes Divide, Hawthorne Heights and Atreyu) and check back in tomorrow for Rock Daily’s full report on opening night. • Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell Preview Projekt Revolution [Photo: Getty]

Kerrang! Tour charity auctionKerrang! reader Don Johnson has organised a charity online auction. Don went to the Kerrang! Tour in January and got all the bands on the tour to sign a flag. The flagged was autographed and defaced by members of Mindless Self Indulgence, Dir en grey, Bring Me The Horizon, Black Tide and In Case Of Fire. Black Tide picked the charity of their choice, and all proceeds from the sale of the flag will go to Save The Children UK. You can bid on the signed flag HERE. For more information, see the Flag Tour MySpace. For an interview about the flag, and with fans at the London date of the Kerrang! Tour 2009, see below.

Ready for RevolutionHow does being around all these different artists on the
Projekt Revolution tour inspire you?
Chris Cornell: Being on tour can sometimes be less
complicated than being at home because your day is regimented. You
wake up in the morning, you warm up, you do a soundcheck, you play
your show, you sleep or get on the bus — every single day is
like that. There's someone putting a sheet of paper under your door
telling you what time you're gonna do what. But a festival tour
like this is very different. It's much less predictable and a lot
of different things can happen. And seeing other bands perform for
me changes my whole mood in terms of what I end up bringing
onstage. I've often watched live performance footage from any band
before I go onstage just 'cause it gets me in that mindset.
Chester Bennington: What I like about doing a
touring festival, especially Projekt Rev, is the fact these are
bands that I can get really excited about since I'm part of the
reason they're there. For me, last Projekt Revolution was probably
the best touring experience I've ever had. For me to be able to
bring out Mindless Self Indulgence — a band that I've always
liked and I've felt that they've never really gotten the love that
they deserve — to see them show up and play with another band
like Saosin and 5,000 kids are showing up at noon, just like, "Yes,
it's happening." And I felt really proud that they got to do that
and that Gerard [Way, of My Chemical Romance] and Lyn-Z [Mindless
Self Indulgence bassist Lindsey Ballato] reignited their friendship
and then ended up getting married backstage on the last show. I was
like, "This is freaking awesome." When we did Ozzfest I couldn't go
to the main stage because I had the wrong pass. I felt like I was
segregated from everybody else. The main stage guys were in their
superstar land and it was just like, "I don't feel comfortable
here." Everyone needs to feel respected and everyone needs to be
able to go wherever they wanna go and do whatever

Kerrang!'s show cancellation - UPDATEThe K! Relentless Energy Drink Tour ended in disappointing circumstances on January 30, when the scheduled show at the 02 Academy Brixton had to be cancelled due to a electrical power failure in the local area. The bands had soundchecked in the venue earlier in the day without problems, but shortly before 6pm on the night power was lost across the Lambeth area, and regrettably, although some electricity was supplied to the venue, this was not sufficient to power the onstage sound and lighting equipment and we were left with no option but to cancel the show. Kerrang!, Relentless, Mindless Self Indulgence, Dir en grey, Bring Me The Horizon, Black Tide and In Case Of Fire and everyone connected with the tour is aware that the cancellation came as a huge disappointment to all 4000 ticket holders for the Brixton show: unfortunately the problems were beyond anyone’s control. We must regrettably announce that, despite the very best intentions of the five bands on the tour, it will not be possible to reschedule the show. Management for all the individual bands involved however are looking to bring their acts back to London as soon as their schedules permit. All ticket holders for the cancelled show should contact their point of purchase for refunds. Please check www.kerrang.com for further updates in the week ahead

Mindless Self Indulgence frontman cancels Christmas!Mindless Self Indulgence frontman Jimmy Urine woke up today to an empty stocking. "It's been such a shitty year for the economy that I've been making pacts with everyone," he told Kerrang!. "I've been saying, 'Tell you what, I won't buy you a gift if you don't buy me a gift'. So, I haven't had to buy anybody shit this year." When asked if he was upset waking up to an empty stocking this morning, Urine replied: "That's okay. I'm hard to shop for anyway as I just go out and buy what I want immediately. I'm also very specific. People like to buy me comics but they don't know which ones I already have or which ones I'm into, so I'm quite tough to buy for." Mindless Self Indulgence headline the Kerrang! Relentless Energy Drink Tour next month. For dates, ticket info and a whole bunch of multimedia extras, log on to the K! Tour blog at tour.kerrang.com.

Gerard Way on fatherhoodMy Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way claims that fatherhood is easy compared to writing the follow-up to his band’s 2006 album, The Black Parade. "The record was more challenging than the baby, and the baby was really challenging!" the 32-year-old singer told US magazine Spin. "I was pretty worn out. Liy-Z [Way’s wife and bassist of Mindless Self Indulgence] and I had the baby, and then two weeks after that I was in the studio. “I didn't shave for weeks, looked horrible, and ended up getting
