{$Monster Magnet}'s first release was a self-titled six-song EP released by Germany's {@Glitterhouse Records} in 1990; it remains a highly prized collector's item in America. Although the band's sound is at its feedback-drenched rawest, one can already appreciate leader {$Dave Wyndorf}'s penchant for great hooks, as on {&"Freak Shop USA"} and {&"Lizard Johnny."} The disc also contains early versions of {&"Nod Scene"} and {&"Snake Dance,"} which would resurface on their first domestic release, {^Spine of God}, and {&"Tractor,"} which was re-recorded for their commercial breakthrough, {^Powertrip}. ~ Ed Rivadavia, All Music Guide
