Mötley Crüe

Mötley Crüe Album: “20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: T”

Mötley Crüe Album: “20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: T”
Description :
Motley Crue finally got some retro love from the establishment with their inclusion in Universal's highly successful 20th Century Masters series. Do they deserve it? As the band that resurrected metal in L.A., defined the bad-boy swagger of the genre, and wrote a slew of great pop songs along the way, the answer is simple: most definitely. Despite the band's deserved title of "Masters," this collection is not the definitive statement on their career. <p>For starters the disc spreads itself too thin in covering both the '80s and the '90s with a mere 12 tracks. Most ardent Crue fans would agree that the band took a serious nosedive after 1989's DR. FEELGOOD, and new fans will not need uninspired '90s tracks--such as their "Anarchy in the U.K." cover--at the expense of more cuts from the classics TOO FAST FOR LOVE, SHOUT AT THE DEVIL, and THEATRE OF PAIN. For more of those vintage jams, try the early-'90s hits collection DECADE OF DECADENCE.

- Decent, but not the best.

I don't know who puts these things together, but the choices here could be better. It does have "Shout At The Devil", "Home Sweet Home", "Girls Girls Girls", and "Kickstart My Heart", BUT where's "Dr. Feelgood", "Smokin' In The Boys Room", "Wild Side", and "Don't Go Away Mad (just go away)"? I mean c'mon! This collection might be cheap, but go for the legit "Greatest Hits" instead, or better yet get "Decade Of Decadence" if you can still find that.

- A Sampler, perhaps.

I'm a newer fan of the Crue (maybe a year or so), and I've already done extensive research on the band and read their awesome book "The Dirt" as well as listened to a lot of their hits on radio, and I can say as a well-informed fan that this CD does not do them justice.

I didn't give this album a lower score because A)Past Masters is well known for not including the best OR the most & B)I got it for a discount price so I wasn't expecting too much anyway.

With that said, here is my rant: Sure there are the monster hits 'Girls, Girls, Girls' and 'Shout at the Devil' along with 'Home Sweet Home', but that really is about it. Some, shall I say 'different songs' have been added instead of other mainstream hits like "Dr. Feelgood' 'Live Wire' 'Wild Side' and 'Without You'. In replacement of these, we see flops like "Generation Swine" and 'Hooligan's Holiday'. (Although I'm not a Sex Pistols fan, I really enjoyed MC's cover of 'Anarchy in the UK'...)

I guess I would recommend this album to 'beginning' fans because it gives you the bare essentials plus a few rarities. I just hope that a newcomer doesn't pick this album up and come to the conclusion that this was all Motley had to offer.

But, as a Motley Crue compilation overall...it sucks. Get Shout at the Devil, Feelgood, or better yet, their ACTUAL Greatest Hits album & DVD.

- Great album for neophytes in Mötley Crüe!!

Since early 80's Motley Crue have been one of the most interesting American bands. Besides their music and shows, their path of excess left behind drug abuse, car crashes, weddings to some Hollywood stars.... the typical rockstar lifestyle. The best probably, a bunch of very good songs that nowadays are anthems of rock and roll music.

This compilation is a great album for neophytes in Motley Crue. It reviews all the eras of the band from early 80's to year 2000. It also includes HOOLIGANS HOLIDAY (with John Corabi on vocals) which does not appear in GREATEST HITS (1998).

Summing up: a good album for lots of people (except for fans... who already have all these songs)

- good music

The Motley Crue 20th Century Masters CD is full of good tunes, but it does not actually represent the best of Motley Crue. For every hit present, there is one missing.Classics like Shout at the Devil, Home Sweet Home,Girls,Girls,Girls, and Kickstart My Heart are on this CD,but essential Crue tunes like Live Wire,Looks that Kill,Wildside,Smokin in the Boys Room,Dr.Feelgood,Without You are all missing. The songs that are on here are good songs, but due to the fact that so many essential Motley Crue songs aren't on here this isn't really a good purchase for anyone. If you know anything about Motley Crue you'll already know that many of their hits are missing just from looking at the song list,so this CD doesn't really offer anything for diehard fans, or for new fans. For a good introduction to the Crue try to find Decade of Decadence 81-91.

- I took a ride on the Wild Side

Besides the other reviews that mention the hits not included : ( so I won't do so now, I personaly miss Wild Side being included on this CD. I hear that song and I flash on the video. Remember the drum solo? So if other songs would of been included this CD would have gotton a higher rating. If you are collecting all Motley Crue stuff, go for it, otherwise, save your money on this collection.
