- THIS IS GOOD STUFF!
Mr. Big's "Get Over It" is a very solid album. Thisband produces a consistent product, in that, they always have their own sound that is recognizable and the whole CD is worthy of a spin on a regular basis. I personally feel their lyrics keep improving with age. This CD is no exception. They have adopted a new guitarist for this effort, Richie Kotzen. Richie is a successful guitarist and solo artist who has played with other notable bands such as Poison. He replaces former guitarist Paul Gilbert. He seems to have stepped in and filled the gap Paul Gilbert's absence has created without any difficulty. He also has had a significant impact on the songwriting, having written or co-written seven of the eleven tracks on the CD. Richie has a very blues oriented background, and there is definitely a bluesy flavor to this album, somewhat like Great White. Great White also manages to be a ROCK band but definitely has a touch of blues in their music. Overall, I would say this album is a well worthwhile addition to your CD collection. I really like the whole overall quality of this CD. I rate it four stars because I don't think it is the absolute BEST of Mr. Big, but DEFINITELY an above average effort. Pick up your copy of "Get Over It" and then check out some of your other favorite bands. You may be pleased to find that many of the melodic hard rock bands have 1999-2000 releases. - Everything in Moderation.
In my opinion, Richie Kotzen does not "suck". He's very talented and brings a lot of nice uppers to the album--he's just not Paul Gilbert. For those of us who believe the top 40, and thought Mr.Big was long gone, "Get Over It" is a delightful surprise. I'm happy to say they haven't changed their style to appease the fickled masses in radioland. (So for those of us who like their sound, here's 11 more tracks!) Unlike some reviewers, I actually did listen to the whole album, and I'm happy to say there's not a trace of Ricky Martin or Creed to be found anywhere on it.
What I do see is a bit of monotony in the pace of the songs. On half of them, the boys keep the music different, but if you listen to Eric Martin's voice one song can sound like another. The lyrics are clever, like their album covers--tongue in cheek. The tracks that don't lull you are great additions to the Mr.Big file. "Hole in the Sun" is probably the highlight, but I like Kotzen's "Static" too. (New personnel always adds a freshness.) The sound may be a bit different, but the style's still the same.
If you want to get hooked, start with Mr.Big's "Bump Ahead" (my fave) or "Lean Into It". If you're a fan though, don't be dissuaded: add this one to your collection.

- Big, big return from Mr. Big
This album is a lot better than their previous release, Hey Man, and Billy Sheehan proves why he's one of the best bass players in the whole world. Superfantastic is exactly a superfantastic song and Electrified rocks, still my favourite song is Hole in the Sun. Eric Martin's voice is superb (as in his solo album) and the new guitarrist is as good as Paul Gilbert was.

- What's Missing Here?.......
....Paul Gilbert. Don't get me wrong. Ritchie Kotzen is a above average guitarist and a good all-around musician and songwriter. I enjoyed his work with Poison on the album "Native Tounge". But, he just does not have the talent of Paul Gilbert, in terms of both playing and writing. Nothing against Ritchie, that's just the way it is.
As far as the album's content goes, the songs "Superfantastic", "Static", "Electrified", "A Rose Alone" and "My New Religion" are the primary standouts, with Eric Martin's voice showing newfound maturity and growth. Billy Sheehan is, as always, great. Pat Torpey also shows musical growth on this album.
So overall, this album is good. It's not Mr. Big's best work, but I'd say it's worlds better than anything I've seen on MTV in he last three years. Pick it up and enjoy.

- takes a few listens
This is actually a fine album, you just have to listen with an open mind. It definitely doesn't sound like Mr. Big of old, but it certainly DOES NOT sound like Creed, as one reviewer wrote! The main difference is the aggresssion and "heaviness" seems to be down a notch or two. There are still songs that rock, but on the whole they have more groove and soul. Kotzens guitar sound is more twangy, and has less distortion than Mr. Gilbert. He obviously has a lot of influence with the sound of this album. At first I didn't like it, but now I listen on a regular basis! Favorites are Hole in the Sun, How Does It Feel, and Static.
