Single Minded: MSTRKRFT’s Yeah Yeah Yeahs Remix, Bat for Lashes Cover Kings of LeonPhoto: Forrest/WireImage Bat For Lashes, “Use Somebody” [Kings of Leon Cover] There aren’t enough superlatives in the world to adequately describe how much S-M loves Natasha Kahn. This week, she pays homage to Rolling Stone’s cover with a version that makes us starry-eyed and weak-kneed. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “Zero” [MSTRKRFT Remix] Yeah Yeah Yeahs are fresh off a particularly noteworthy victory: managing to sound good on Saturday Night Live. This hyperkenetic MSTRKRFT remix feels like a suitable re

New Reviews: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wavves, Peter Doherty and MorePhoto: Josh Wildman It’s Tuesday once again, which means there’s a whole slate of new CDs on sale now at your soon-to-be-closing record stores or favorite digital outlet. Before you brave the St. Patrick’s Day-celebrating masses on the way to the store, let Rolling Stone be your guide to the best of this week’s new releases. Indie rock (or, in this case, sorta indie rock) is the place to be this week, mostly because of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ third album It’s Blitz. Awarded four stars in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone, which hits newsstands tomorrow, It’s Blitz finds the YYYs throwing an art-punk dance party. “The turn toward the dance floor makes sense: Yeah Yeah Yeahs are drawing on a tradition of arty New York dance punk that extends from the Talking Heads to TV on the Radio, whose guitarist, Dave Sitek, co–produced It’s Blitz! The big news, though, isn’t YYY’s groovier sound — it’s the heat they radiate,” Jody Rosen writes in his review. Out of San Diego, California, we have Wavves’ Wavvves, the second LP by one-man surf-punk auteur Nathan Williams. (Be sure not to mistake Wavvves for the one-less-”v” of Wavves, the band’s debut album.) A cacophony of Brian Wilson melodies and Jesus & Mary Chain distortion, Wavvves is bad–trip music for cloudless days: surging distortion, sun–dazed hooks and a dark sense of humor,” Will Hermes writes in his three-star review. “The battle between noise and melody veers from scary to hilarious to heroic, and as a metaphor for trying to feel good in trying times, it may hit you close to home.” There’s also Grace/Wasteland, the first solo album by former Libertines/Babyshambles trainwreck Pete Doherty (now going by the first name Peter), with the oft-troubled guitarist managing to “make his dysfunction sing” on his debut LP. The album also features “Sheepskin Tearaway,” “a sketch of a chemical romance and one of Doherty’s prettiest songs ever.” For the rest of this week’s New Releases, check below: • MSTRKRFT’s Fist of God • Maria

Single Minded: Usher, Coldplay, 50 Cent Meets the 1950s and More Usher, “Love in this Club” (MSTRKRFT Remix) [Remix] We can’t prove it, but we’re pretty sure it costs less to work with MSTRKRFT than it does with Garage Band. Though, in Polow’s defense, we spent about an hour looking for those supposed presets in our version to no avail. But when has the Internet ever lied to us before? Coldplay, “Violet Hill” (Cryptonites Remix) [Remix] OK, you’ve got us: S-M is excited for a Coldplay record. We know, we know. But the two songs we’ve heard makes it sound like someone has been feeding Chris Martin a bunch of Neu! records, and this remix is fierce and ferocious. Next, we expect to get way into Maroon 5, Katherine Heigl and turkey sandwiches. DJ Doc Rock Presents 50 Cent’s Golden Oldies [Mashup Mixtape] This mixtape hybridizes 50 Cent and ’50s classics, making this the one hip-hop record you can listen to with your grandma. Except that even your grandma would complain that 50’s flow is weak. Ida, “Road to Ruin” [John & Beverly Martyn Cover] Placid indie rock couple try their hand at covering placid British folk couple. You were expecting a run through “Know the Ledge”? Various Artists, 2008 Party Mix [Remix Mixtape] Just in time for Memorial Day is this week’s goldmine: Houston DJ Dave Wrangler transforms indie hits till their dancefloor proper. It’s like when everyone leaves school for summer vacation, and then they come back the next year and the old captain of the debate team is all into Slayer and body modification.

Coachella Shocker: Amy Winehouse Allowed Into Country, Apparently [Let's Try This Again]The real Coachella lineup was announced last night. It features many of the acts on the fake list Ryan Seacrest was selling (along with blowjobs) for five bucks in an alley off Yucca all week. Namely, Paul McCartney will indeed be headlining, on Friday night, the same night Morrissey will be playing. Paul fucking McCartney and Morri fucking ssey. Same stage, same day. Amy Winehouse was a nice surprise—we thought she wasn't allowed on U.S. shores ever since she freebased her visa—as was The Cure (though they kind of put us to sleep the year Radiohead blew our brains out our ears) and My Bloody Valentine. Other acts of note: Leonard Cohen, Conor Oberst, TV on the Radio, MSTRKRFT, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Antony & the Johnsons, and X. We lost Katy Perry, but gained a Steve Aoki. Death-cheating TRAV$DJ-AM are on the Saturday bill. And the rumored Britney Spears appearance never panned out. Coachella

Owen Wilson Texts His Way to Recovery [Hollywood Privacywatch]This edition of Hollywood PrivacyWatch brings a very special Stallion sighting, an especially social Office star, a veritable galaxy of airport celebrity and other high-wattage fruits of your spying labors. Remember, each and every PrivacyWatch relies on your restless, roving eyes, so keep those tips coming with either "Sightings" or "PrivacyWatch" in the subject line. We appreciate all of your surveillance and couldn't contemplate leaving any of it behind. Among those observed in this installment: Owen Wilson, John Krasinski, Amy Adams, Ryan Phillippe, Neil Patrick Harris, Jared Leto, John Legend, Jonah Hill, Martin Landau, Chloe Sevigny, William Fichtner, Ron Livingston, Mekhi Phifer and more. SATURDAY, SEPT. 20 Went to see The Women (the play, not the movie) in a theater near downtown, when I saw MARTIN LANDAU (looking dapper for 77) talking with JACK STEHLIN from Weeds. I was going to list some Martin Landau credits but imdb has 155 of them and I didn't know what to pick. Loved him in Ed Wood, though. THURSDAY, SEPT. 25 Sept. 25 [At the] Aloud event at the LA Central Library, I spotted ERIC IDLE and a companion enjoying the battling accents of ARIANNA HUFFINGTON and BERNARD HENRI-LEVY. Looked like ALAIN GIRAUD may have been there as well, but I can't be sure. Idle and the Giraud lookalike repaired to Cafe Pinot for a post-talk meal, I expect to be joined by BHL and AH, since they were chatting on stage after the event. FRIDAY, SEPT. 26 It was a transatlantic Dundler-Mifflin meetup on Friday (9/26) at the Magic Castle as JOHN KRASINSKI was hanging with STEPHEN MERCHANT (from The Office UK and Extras). The former looked way hotter and less goofy in person and the latter is a good seven feet tall and was chatting up AIMEE MANN. I was dancing up a storm during the MSTRKRFT show at the Henry Fonda Theater when a guy walks right up and blocks my view. He turns around to face me and starts to mess around with his phone. I’m just about to call him out for being in my ‘p
