Nazareth Album: “Big Dogz”

Yep, you heard right. This is Nazareth of old, served up steaming hot in 2011!

As a long time Naz fan, I have stood by them through the ups (No Mean city) and the downs (The Catch). But with their previous effort "The Newz", something wonderful was happening again. Naz was beginning to gel again. The question on my mind was this- could they continue to evolve?

The answer is not just yes, but a BIG, in your face yes.

Sounding somewhat like a cross between "The Newz" and "Expect no Mercy" (with a bit of "Close enough for Rock and Roll" thrown in for good measure). Big Dogz could, in fact, be one of the best Nazareth albums ever. Dan's voice is still my favorite in all the world of Rock and Roll!

I love this direction Nazareth have taken so late in their career, sounding like classic Nazareth of the 70s without sounding dated. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade some of their "middle year" songs for anything ("Games"? "Turning a New Leaf"? "Every Young Man's Dream"?), but the old Naz is back, and snarling again. Meet the new Naz, same as the old Naz.

This voice is still-one of the best!! Great release-stays very true to the classic sound....but who cares-this simply is an awesome buy!!

Lyrics contemplating life, relationships and commentary on society. Extremely mature. The music is raw and made me step back in appreciation and very pleasant surprise. As I listened I found myself looking off in space digesting the quality of the music I was hearing. I was not expecting something this good.

The music on this CD is the best I've heard from one of my all time favorite bands in years. It's as though they just decided not to try and play Nazareth, but instead, be Nazareth. No jive here folks. Mcafferty and the boys pulled out the stops on this one. It is a most creative album. Unexpected raw power that glistens with experience and refinement. These guys have synced up tight.

A great great CD. I even hear some crunching shred that harks back to the Manny days. It's clearly not about copying anyone, it's just heritage. This album to me is truly in the same league as the best of the old days yet, fresh and contemporary with outstanding lyric maturity and craftsmanship.

This one is just a awesome metal cd. The songs sound like classic metal from the seventies and 80's. There isn't a weak song on here! There are two well made ballads that even sound great. I got the two disc version and that one has six accoustic songs on it. (on the second disc). If you love that classic metal sound that features good playing and in this case the loud thumping nazareth of 1972-80 then this is for you. I like modern metal but to me this kind of metal is the best. Melodic metal. Some songs sound like they could have been on 'hair of the dog' even. This one is a highpoint for this band and it's type of metal.

This is a quite good record. At least as good as the previous one from 2008. Maybe a little better. There's something about the heaviness on this album, that reminds me of the old days, when Manny Charlton was in the band. A track like "Radio" for instance. Also good are "When jesus comes to save the world again", "Butterfly" and the titletrack.
