- Neruosis 1.5
Most of the things I wanted to say about this album were already said by Avi Roig in his review; One of my favorite Neurosis releases, with a simpler sound, less production. The bass is much further up front in the mix and in the arrangements, evidence of their large-looming Rudimentary Peni influence, I think. The only difference in our views is that I think that this album represents their "awkward in between stage," not Souls At Zero. Pain of Mind (1st album) had a much more straight forward hardcore approach, while I thought Souls (3rd album) was the first album with their current approach, the heavy, overwhelming, apocalyptic sound. Word As Law is somewhere between them. I can imagine the first two albums would be a little shocking to fans who got into Neurosis through their later material.
The only thing I don't like about this CD is that it doesn't include Aberration, the phenomenal 7-inch EP released between Pain and Word. It should be here and it's a real pity it isn't.

- Great band, great album...
I saw these guys perform several times at Gilman in Berkeley around 90-91 and they were probably one of the best bands that played there at that time. This album remind me of early Danzig because the guitars on this album sound heavy, unsettling and 'evil', which is a good thing! Their cover of Day Of The Lords by Joy Division is probably one of the best Joy Division covers ever made. They made the song sound even more disturbing than the original, which is actually quite an accomplishment!

- GREAT!!
This is another great display of talent by Neurosis. Continue the trip in your mind and look into your soul and see all the ugliness that exists.

- Times have changed
I remember buying this tape back in the early 90's and still to date it is one of the best ones out there. Unfourtunatley due to the record companies and political/legal aspect, Neurosis will never be able to perform any of these songs becuase they are not allowed to. I respect them for it cause let's face it the record industry is putting out the money that feeds their families(these guys aren't rich, so don't think of them as sell outs. Even though there newer releases rock and are very hard this one will always be my all time favorite. Especially "the choice" and "double edged sword".

- Step to the front, the falling is today!
Excellent 2nd album from Neurosis.
Not as fast as Pain Of Mind, but more technical still with Hardcore roots.
But Neurosis/Lookout, whats with the bonus track being 10 minutes of guitar feedback? Not cool! Coulda been something much better.
