Disco de Orishas: “Emigrante”
 Descripción (en inglés) :
EMIGRANTE won the 2003 Latin Grammy Award for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album. The album was also nominated for the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.
<p>On EMIGRANTE, Latin hip-hop crew Orishas serves up a heady brew of aggressive, Cypress Hill-style rap combined with smooth Cuban vocals, old school beats, and sharp, minimalist production. A number of tracks also feature traditional Latin instrumentation, making the album a true fusion of North and South. Unlike many non-English speaking hip-hoppers, Roldan, Ruzzo and Yotuel are prodigious rhymers, reveling in the Spanish language's natural melodiousness, but adding a rhythmic virtuosity and biting edge usually only heard in the work of the best East coast rappers. By contrast, Orishas' lazy grooves often recall the West Coast G-funk jams of Dr. Dre. Despite the obvious touchstones, however, the presence of real instruments and the frequent use of vocals keep the record sounding fresh. Orishas' totally unique approach to hip-hop and their refusal to merely copy American artists makes EMIGRANTE one of the genre's, and perhaps 2002's, most important albums.

- asere, que bola?
orishas comes back with another amazing record!! this cd had me completely hooked!! as if "a lo cubano" wasn't amazing enough, the guys from orishas come back with a bang. even without flaco-pro, who had some serious skills. he left the group about 4 shows into a tour because his brother got in with some bad people in miami. he was killed, and flaco-pro turned to booze. but be on the look out for flaco, because word is he's still writing and collaborating and recording...
anyway, i can't wait til "el kilo," their third cd drops march 29th. i saw a video online of "naci orishas" (the first single) online and it's incredible!!

- Orishas "Emigrante" Represents
For the past 2 years, the Paris based Cuban rap group have been ripping up world wide air waves. On "Emigrante," Orishas continue their successful rap/salsa/son/guancaco mix, creating yet another classic album. Many tracks shine through on their eclectic mix of music. "La Vida Pasa," a most impressive salsa/rap mix, incorporates traditional Cuban percussion with electronic drums and a mezmorizing piano line. Altogether, the album is both upbeat and mello at times, excentuating the talents of the threesome that now makes up the group. If you liked "A Lo Cubano," you'll not be dissapointed with "Emigrante." A solid, and invigorating album all around.

- Another must have album
ok if you have heard the first Orishas album and loved it, then you will love this one. simple as that. the style is fantastic and they manage to keep the sound fresh. this album also seems to be a little more from the souls of the artists than the previous one was. i would not hesitate to recommend this album to anyone, it makes US/UK commercial hip-hop/ urban music sound extremely manufactured and repetitive. I have seen these guys live, and then attended an after-party with them, they are all extremely talented and have a genuine love for the music, i think that this comes out through the recording, and makes it that much better. If you don't like this album, it is probably because your stero is not good enough to experience it.

- More than worth!
Dear Hip Hop Lovers.... I present to you "Orishas", your first and last stop in latin hip hop, they are simply taking the world by storm, just when you thought hip hop's best work could only be heard in English...we were simply wrong... by combining traditional cuban music with hip hop they are able to create a never heard before fresh hip hop sound that speaks for itself!
This... their second album, has proven once more their abilities to simply be the very best at what they do...and that's the truth...
All songs are great, but specially "Que Pasa"; "Guajiro"; "Asi Fue"; "Niños"; "300 Kilos"; "Testimonio" & "La Vida Pasa"... The album contains Spanish & French lyrics, but don't worry because I'm sure their flow will make you nod your head without understanding a word of it, that's a promise... as a result both of their albums are part of my most frequent played-permanent collection!
Their 3rd album is being released sometime next month!...
For both cd's I thank Orishas, Thank you Orishas!
Keep up the good work!
A Lover!...

- You win one, you lose one...
The artist who seemed to have the most influence on their unique sound has left the group, and you can feel it on this CD. The style of rap of the remaining members seems more contrived, the melodic riffs and choruses this time around didn't move me. Nothing much stands out. The sound is still their own, but this album did not impact me the way their first one did.
