Underground Kingz - UGK (Underground Kingz) Artist: Underground Kingz Review: UGK are as Houston as oil rigs, having helped originate the slow-rolling drawl-and-brawl sound that defines H-town hip-hop, but they were sidelined while their city blew up -- Pimp C, one half of UGK, recently spent four years behind bars for aggravated assault. UGK is one monster comeback album: twenty-six tracks with guest spots from OutKast, Rick Ross and T.I. Pimp C produces most cuts, going heavy on narcotic synth-funk that's sometimes hypnotic and sometimes forgettable, and though... Rating: 3.5 Stars

Rewind: The Week in Rock DailyPhoto: Kravitz/FilmMagic We caught soon-to-be Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Metallica’s surprise SXSW performance, then hung out with James Hetfield to talk Guitar Hero. Plus, the heavy metal gods announced more tour dates, released a “Broken, Beat and Scarred” video and invited Jason Newsted to join them at the Rock Hall ceremony (”The Black Album will be back,” Newsted told RS.) And that cop who urinated on fans at a Metallica show in Boston is no longer a police officer. Kanye West, Jane’s Addiction, Devo, OutKast’s Big Boi, the Hold Steady, Circle Jerks, Juliette and the New Romantiques, Silversun Pickups, Airborne Toxic Event and Little Boots are just a fraction of the big-name artists and emerging acts Rock Daily caught down in Austin, Texas last weekend. Check out our SXSW coverage for the full scoop. We learned that Billy Corgan is to Smashing Pumpkins what Axl Rose is to Guns n’ Roses after drummer Jimmy Chamberlin left the band. Chamberlin explained he couldn’t “cash the check” anymore. Prince finally launched his colorful Lotusflow3r Website, giving fans an early taste of his three new albums and allowing them to watch all that footage the Web Sheriff banned from YouTube for the price of $77. Lotusflow3r, MPLSound and Elixir all hit Target Sunday.

News Ticker: Green Day, Regeneration Tour, AC/DC, Big Boi After months of dodging, Green Day finally admitted that they are the Foxboro Hot Tubs. Billie Joe Armstrong revealed that the band got its name from “a place we used to sneak booze and chicks into late at night.” Eighties mainstays the Human League, Dead Or Alive, A Flock of Seagulls and Belinda Carlisle will band their ridiculous hairstyles together for the inaugural Regeneration Tour. The country-crossing affair spans from August 1st to the 29th. AC/DC is currently in the studio with producer Brendan O’Brien working on their first album in eight years says, according to Supersuckers (whose own album has been delayed as their own producer engineers for O’Brien and AC/DC). OutKast’s Big Boi is set to debut his new ballet “big” for the first of six performances tonight at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre. The rapper reportedly also plans to premiere his new solo single “Sir Lucious Leftfoot Saves the Day” to close out the evening.

News Ticker: Fall Out Boy, OutKast, Slash, Grammys Tour Fall Out Boy’s attempt to play concerts on all seven continents has been temporarily postponed as surprise “bad weather” in Antarctica prevented the band from traveling to the South Pole. The band, currently in Chile, will attempt to take the frozen continent Wednesday before heading back to the States. OutKast’s road manager and former WCW wrestler Chase Tatum was found dead Sunday in his Atlanta home after an apparent drug overdose. Tatum appeared with OutKast’s Big Boi in the 2007 film Who’s Your Caddy? Despite bandmate Duff McKagan’s assertions, Velvet Revolver’s Slash has downplayed claims that the band is the leading candidate to open for a Led Zeppelin reunion tour. T-Mobile and the Grammys are teaming up for the 50th Grammy Celebration Concert Tour. Five cities will play host to a concert featuring unnamed past and present Grammy winners, with owners of Sidekick phones given the opportunity to win backstage VIP treatment.

New OutKast Album Is Andre 3000 and Big Boi’s Second PriorityIt kind of seems like forever since OutKast released the soundtrack to their long-delayed speakeasy film Idlewild. Now comes word that we’ve all got a long wait ahead of us before the duo wil be done with another proper album. Apparently Andre 3000 and Big Boi are both otherwise occupied making solo LPs. “After we do those solo albums, we’re planning on doing another OutKast album. I don’t know how long that’s gonna be; it could be two years,” Andre says. Of course, it’s always possible that both solo efforts will be released together as a double album under the OutKast name, like 2003’s Grammy-winning blockbuster Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

De La Soul’s Track by Track Guide to “3 Feet High and Rising”Photo: Michael Ochs Archive/Getty Twenty years ago De La Soul changed the face of hip-hop with their sunny, funky 3 Feet High and Rising. The 1989 release produced by Prince Paul went on to influence Digable Planets, OutKast and Kanye West, and notoriously faced some of the earliest legal actions related to sample clearing. “I remember back in the day, saying it’s so cool that the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie are still played,” Trugoy, a.k.a. David Jude Jolicoeur, tells RS. “That’s what
