Rage Against the Machine Schedule Show Near Republican ConventionFollowing their near-riot-inducing performance at this weekend’s Lollapalooza, Rage Against the Machine have scheduled another concert they probably hope has similar results. The band announced that they’ll perform in Minneapolis’ Target Center on September 3rd, which is significant because that’s the same week the Republican National Convention rolls into the Twin City of St. Paul. In 2000, the band played an outdoor show in Los Angeles during the Democratic National Convention, and that show ended with police using tear gas and pepper spray. In the announcement of the Minneapolis show, Rage made no mention of the political overtones their show will carry, but Tom Morello has already revealed he will play a union rally with Steve Earle in St. Paul on September 1st, the first day of the RNC. Protest isn’t free, though: tickets for Rage’s show in Prince’s hometown are $60 and go on sale Saturday. [Photo: Getty]

Report: Limited Edition Beatles iPod Coming to Bloomingdales Though the Beatles’ music remains unavailable on iTunes, Bloomingdales may play host to the first official meeting of the Fab Four and Steve Jobs’ device. The department store has acquired the rights to Beatles images from Apple Records and will produce a series of T-shirts, jackets and accessories that bear images from posters and album artwork. But the big news is that they will also produce a limited-edition Beatles iPod stocked with every song in the band’s catalog. Only 100 will be made available, so consider it the ultimate rock & roll fetish item when the line launches this holiday season. In other Beatles news, the iconic drum skin on the front cover of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band went to auction yesterday in London, fetching over $1 million. The item was the most popular of the Beatles memorabilia that sold at Christie’s Auction House, getting four times more than expected. A hand-penned lyric sheet of John Lennon’s “Give Peace a Chance” also sold well with a winning bid of over $800,000. A bunch of never-before-seen Beatles photos and Lennon’s sunglasses from the Mind Games sleeve were also auctioned off.

News Ticker: Slash, Fall Out Boy, John Mayer Slash may get his Dr. Pepper after all. Asked by the BBC whether the original Guns N’ Roses could ever reunite, the guitarist said it would take “a twist of fate.” “It’s a possibility, but there are so many big things that would have to change before it was even possible,” said Slash. “It’s not in the foreseeable future, as far as I’m concerned.” Bad weather finally forced Fall Out Boy to cancel their trip to Antarctica after a week of postponements. The band hoped to play the frozen continent in order to make the Guinness Book of World Records as the first act to play all seven continents. If being a rocker and commandeering cruise ships doesn’t work out, John Mayer can look forward to a job at ESPN. Listen to Mayer’s hilarious attempt at play-by-play during the Boston Red Sox/Oakland Athletics game in Tokyo. News Ticker: Guns N’ Roses, Warped Tour, Richie Sambora, Fall Out Boy While we all wait endlessly for Axl Rose to release the long-delayed Chinese Democracy, the makers of Dr. Pepper are being proactive. The soft drink announced they will provide a free can of the soda to everyone in the U.S. if the album drops this year. “It took a little patience for us to perfect Dr Pepper’s special mix of 23 ingredients, so we completely understand and empathize with Axl’s [quest] for the perfect album,” said a Dr. Pepper spokesperson. Paramore, Gym Class Heroes, Against Me!, Cobra Starship and others will headline this year’s Warped tour. The forty-six date tour will kick off in Los Angeles on June 20th. Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora was arrested yesterday morning and charged with a DUI after allegedly driving drunk in Laguna Beach, California. Sambora previously spent two stints in rehab in 2007. The risks of playing concerts in Antarctica: After “bad weather” postponed Fall Out Boy’s trip to the South Pole, the band’s “runway” — a part of the Wilkins Ice Shelf — collapsed into the sea. The band remains in Chile until conditions improves.

Wilson/McCartney Duet Rumor Debunked: No London Collaboration A representative for Brian Wilson sets the record straight regarding the rumor that Paul McCartney will join Brian Wilson onstage at London’s Royal Festival Hall to perform a track from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: “There has never even been a discussion about Paul and Brian performing together at RFH ever! Brian has been working hard on his commissioned piece and is teaching his amazing band along with the Stockholm Strings ‘n Horns the parts. He is doing his favorite song off the Sgt. Pepper album along with other Beach Boys songs that he’s never performed live before but that’s it.”

NOW! Comp Outsells Prince, Brian Wilson Announces Special Concerts, Eminem Pushes Back LP Prince’s Planet Earth overcame the controversy surrounding its free giveaway and subsequent file-sharing leak to claim the number three spot on the Billboard charts in its U.S. debut week, selling 96,000 copies. The twenty-fifth installment in the NOW! series held onto the top spot for a second straight week, selling 149,000, while the Hairspray soundtrack enjoyed a 41 percent sales increase to rise to number two. Brian Wilson will debut “That Lucky Old Sun (A Narrative),” his new collaboration with Van Dyke Parks, during a six-night run next month at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The concerts will also feature Wilson performing “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” to honor the fortieth anniversary of Wilson’s old art rivals’ classic album. Eminem will not be releasing a new album in 2007, despite the appearance of a “bogus” Web site claiming the contrary. Wyclef Jean reiterates Pras’ claims that Lauryn Hill is to blame for the ailing Fugees reunion: “Lauryn is straight up the problem, bro. She wants to be a producer.” EMI Records, home to artists such as the Beatles and Radiohead, was sold to the Terra Firma equity company for roughly £2.4 billion.

Eric Clapton Adds Acts to Crossroads Fest, Iggy Pop Lashes Out at Stooges Flicks, Cheap Trick Play the Beatles Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Festival, set to take place next weekend in Chicago, already boasts a lineup that features acts ranging from B.B. King to John Mayer. Now the show — which will benefit Clapton’s rehab facility in Antigua — has added Robbie Robertson, formerly of The Band, along with Johnny Winter and emcee Bill Murray to the list of performers. Festival organizers will also release extra tickets to the previously sold-out event today via the venue’s box office and Ticketmaster. Iggy Pop apologized for using a racist term during an interview at Glastonbury and lashed out at the two Stooges biopics in the works, even though he already approved of Elijah Wood’s casting. Cheap Trick and special guests will play Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band at the Hollywood Bowl on August 10 and 11 to celebrate the album’s 40th anniversary. Only about half of fans who scored free tickets to this year’s Ozzfest have showed up to the tour’s California dates. After some release-date shuffling, Kanye West and 50 Cent will go head to head on September 11 with new albums. Photo: Kane/Getty
