Jon Bon Jovi Joins Cobain “Guitar Hero 5″ ProtestFormer Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl have already expressed consternation about a Kurt Cobain avatar in Guitar Hero 5 singing along to Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name.” Courtney Love went into a Twitter frenzy and fans everywhere shook their heads in disbelief. But they have found an unlikely ally in their protest: Jon Bon Jovi. “I don’t know that I would have wanted it either,” Bon Jovi told BBC News. “To hear someone else’s voice coming out of a cartoon version of me? Single Minded: Shelby Lynne, Joe Jackson, Mars Volta, Vampire Weekend and Protest the Hero Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more. Vampire Weekend, “Oxford Comma,” “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” [Official Site] Vampire Weekend’s songs are bright and bouyant, so it’s a shame that by the time you finish reading this everyone you know will already hate them. Joe Jackson, “King Pleasure Time” [MySpace] After five years, Joe Jackson returns with a whole new batch of songs for the Raconteurs to crib from. Shelby Lynne, “Willie and Laura Mae Jones” [Official Site] Lynne gives a once-over to the Dusty Springfield catalog but, to the incredible relief of anyone who attended college in the Nineties, spares us the song they used in Pulp Fiction. The Mars Volta, “Untitled Exclusive Track” [Official Site] Successfully solve this puzzle, and get rewarded with an exclusive Mars Volta track. We’d tell you what it sounds like, but at a certain point the reward was no longer worth the effort. That “certain point” was after, like, nine or ten seconds. Protest the Hero, “Bloodmeat” [MySpace] And speaking of prog! Canadian band imagines a side project between Rush and Skid Row. Make of that what you will. [Photo: Getty]

Oh no... Which star is doing a Britney?Remember the days when Britney Spears was a hero for the True Love Waits pro-chastity movement? Ha! It seems totally ridiculous now, doesn't it? She's a mum now and everything. It was actually a whole five years ago when Britney finally admitted she wasn't a virgin, and now a new young music star has risen up to steal her pro-chastity crown. American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is the latest starlet to proclaim her virginity, and the star is even wearing a purity ring to show off her dedication to her Christian beliefs. Jordin said, "I don't want to give away bits of my soul to lots of different guys – I want to give all of myself to the right man on the right night, and the right night is my wedding." That all sounds very sweet and admirable, but we're struggling to take it seriously after the whole Britney thing. Jordin went on to protest, "I really can't see myself breaking my vow. My family would never let me get out of line and run wild." The 18-year-old singing sensation has followed in the footsteps of Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers, who have all promised to stay pure for their faith. We think this is all great and everything, but it almost seems like speaking out about it like this is tempting fate a bit. Are we just cynical old trouts, or are you reading this with an eyebrow raised, too?
