Usually people buy the single first, since the actual album hasn't come out yet. But with "Mein Teil" here is an example of a single that is so good that you should really consider buying the single even AFTER the actual album (Reise, Reise) has already come out. Sure, you could buy the album and hear "Mein Teil", but OOH BOY! would you be missing out! Here's why:

MEIN TEIL: This is the original version (+ 15 or 20 seconds) that you hear on "Reise, Reise". At the very beginning of this version you'll hear a German voice say the following as an introduction to the song . . .

"Suche gut gebauten Achtzehn- bis Dreißigjährigen zum Schlachten

Der Metzgermeister"

Translated (loosely) means: "Seeks good-figured 18 to 30 year-old to butcher. --The Butchermaster"

And then the rest of the song is exactly like the version on "Reise, Reise". If you love hard, heavy music that has coherent lyrics that you can even follow along with, you'll love this song!

MEIN TEIL (YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT EDIT) (REMIXED BY THE PET SHOP BOYS):

WOW!!! This is what makes me have to have this single! It's my belief that a good remix should make the original song sound "new" while still capturing the spirit of the original. This remix wastes no time whatsoever getting to the point. There is definitely more of a techno feel here and the heavy bass does an outstanding job of counteracting it, making this a very well-balanced remix. Once again, WOW!

MEIN TEIL (RETURN TO NEW YORK BUFFET MIX) (REMIXED BY A. BAKER):

Blah. This one sounds like they tried to make it club-friendly but it is waaaaay too repetitive to enjoy. Just say to yourself "Denn du bist, denn du bist, denn du bist" on and on and on for about 5 minutes and you get an idea of what this remix is like.

MEIN TEIL (THERE ARE NO GUITARS ON THIS MIX) (REMIXED BY THE PET SHOP BOYS): Almost as good as the first Pet Shop Boys remix, but not quite. The two are very similar, of course this one has no guitars.

MEIN TEIL VIDEO: Not all the singles will have this video I think. I got my single from Amazon.de the day "Mein Teil" came out and it came with it. The video is shown on a special player with a screen size roughly that of a post-it note. But I think there is also an option to go online and maybe see a larger screen version of it (something I never was able to do, lacking internet). The video itself is okay, but not great and will probably offend some of us (especially if you like angels). It's no wonder they didn't show this video much (if at all) on VIVA or MTV in Germany when I was there.

RECOMMENDED: If you like the hard-hitting sound of "Mein Teil", you'll like "Zerstoeren" from Rammsteins latest album "Rosenrot". Outside of Rammstein you might want to try Oomph! "Wahrheit oder Pflicht"

- Mein Teil is has good value

Mein Teil is a four-track single released by Rammstein for their Reise, Reise album.

The first track is the album version of Mein Teil. The second track is The Pet Shop Boys remix and is personally my favorite remix of the song. It has the synth and computerized beats characteristic of Rammstein remixes of the time. Much the same can be said for the third track (the remix by Arthur Baker). This remix is a few minutes longer due to the longer intro and more trance-ish style. Overall a good track. The fourth track is another remix by the Pet Shop Boys and basically sounds like an extended version of their other Mein Teil remix. Again there is a lot of computerized beats and synth parts (no suprise).

Overall this is a pretty good single and I wouldn't necessarily recomend it exclusively to die-hard fans. If you can find this single for under ten dollars it would probably be worth spending the money if you are a moderate Rammstein fan. If you like exploring this group and getting a taste of some of their more out-of-the-way material then this single may be for you. I would also reccomend getting your hands on some of their other singles if you like what you hear.

- Can we just put a sixth star?

I'm usually no big fan about singles, because singles always find the way to because heavily rebarbative... I guess you know what i mean.

But! Surprise Surprise! I might have become crazy, but that single is totally awesome!!

The song, itself, is probably the harder song Rammstein ever created, with THE subject: The Cannibal of Rotenburg (to resume for those who doesn't know much about this story: there was a man, in germany, that wrote a quote on the ent, searching for: a man between 18 and 30, to be sexually abused (SadoMasochism), then being eaten, alive... So i figure you can probably imagine the rest)

Once again, Rammstein provocates us with poetically-chocking lyrics, and make us reflect about how the line between men and animals can be thin (for those who haven't seen the Clip about the song, we see the band members fighting each others (at the end), then being chained down as dogs... Pretty evocative...)

This single is a must, as much as it is for Rammstein fans or for anybody that loves dark poetry or music. I now realise that you CANNOT be disapointed after you buy any of Rammstein's merchandise :D!

- whoa...

The story behind this is gross enough, but now the song comes out and tells the story itself..I love it.. Rammstein recreates a scene in Germany where a cannibal posts an ad in public wanting someone to eat, someone answers the ad and gets eaten alive. If your a heavy Rammstein fan, this song reminds me alot of "Herzeleid" and "Rein Raus" combined, it is very heavy, filled with a driven sound throughout the whole song, and like the old school Rammstein style, it does not let up.

Seeing as how it is new, a lot controversy has been raised about the song, but doing some searching, I have found and downloaded 4 different versions. Seeing as how they are still new and I have not found the proper names for them, I am describing them by how the songs are different from each other.

Mein Teil (original): the power driven ballad, straight up in your face Rammstein, pounding guitars, and a scary voice to fit.

Mein Teil (Electronics version): this version is completely different from the original, using electronics to add an upbeat emotion to the song, the words are different, this might be the Reise Reise version, so I am not clear. But this song has a killer guitar riff, and pounding drums, great song, you need to listen to it a few times, though.

Mein Teil (5 minute version): this version is very much like the original, just 30 seconds longer, and some words are taken out, and some words are added. Same guitars and drums, voice sounds the same, but its still a great song to listen to.

Mein Teil (Instrumental): no words, just a calm kickback between each version of the song, it sounds like a computer generated guitar in the background, but I dont know, a great relaxing yet suspicious song.

All in all, these four versions are in some ways different, but in most ways the same. Rammstein really picked a hell of a subject to write a song about, and I look forward to purchasing the cd and getting everything straight. If your a first timer Rammstein fan, I strongly recommend any version of this song except the instrumental, not to be rude in anyway, but that version was kind of a let down. To end this on a good note, I look forward to the new material from these guys, and I hope they keep rockin the German way, straight up in your face rock.
