"We are not reforming!"Former Refused frontman Dennis Lyxzen has dismissed rumours that the band are to reform. On March 27, a message, which simply read "Coming soon...", was posted on www.officialrefused.com, leading to speculation that the Swedish hardcore foursome were set to reunite and perform at European festivals over the summer. However, in an e-mail sent to LA-based music and gossip site, Buddyhead, Lyxzen wrote: "No, we are not reforming. Me and David [Sandström, former Refused drummer] are going on tour ne

Refused set to reform?Legendary Swedish hardcore quartet Refused have hinted at a possible reunion. Earlier today, a message, which simply read "Coming soon...", was posted on www.officialrefused.com, alongside a live image taken from their New Noise video and an Epitaph logo. Refused formed 19 years ago in Umea, Sweden. They broke up shortly after the release of their classic 1998 album, The Shape Of Punk To Come. Shortly after their final show in a Virginian basement on October 6, 1998, the band penned a vitriolic

Devo Hint at New Album’s Sound, Debut Songs During SXSW SetPhotograph by Brian Birzer A much-hyped show at Austin Music Hall was the second performance from recently reinvigorated new-wavers Devo since plans to release their first studio album in 19 years. A band that built their career on questioning traditions — musical, social and otherwise — Devo refused to lure in the crowd with familiar fare, instead opening with a slew of brand new songs and lesser-known hits. The three new songs — “Don’t Shoot, I’m A Man,” “Fresh” and “What We Do” — hinted at what the new Devo album might sound like: heavy robo-guitars, very limited modern synths and pulsing beats that are more machine-man than man-machine; especially since drummer Josh Freese gives everything the unique heft he lends to bands like A Perfect Circle and Nine Inch Nails. (For more photos of Devo and other SXSW performers, check out our gallery.) Devo’s stiff movements and matching jumpsuits have always scoffed the idea of “stage presence,” but the visuals for this show mocked it. Using tiny cameras posted everywhere and a giant LCD display the size of a movie screen, Devo rebroadcasted themselves 30 feet high in the most unflattering angles possible. Microphone cameras shot directly up their noses, cameras pointing upwards from the floor made them look chubby and distorted. Thought as one concession to stardom, the band still performed their crossover smash, “Whip It” #8212; albeit buried in the middle of the set. The presence of “Whip It” inspired Mark Mothersbaugh to toss of a few of their trademark red “energy dome” hats into to the crowd — each of which, through some feat of physics involved in their ziggurat shape, flew incredibly far. Set List: “Don’t Shoot, I’m A Man” (new song) “Peek-A-Boo” “What We Do” (new song) “Going Under” “Fresh” (new song) “That’s Good” “Girl U Want” “Whip It” “Secret Agent Man” “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” “Uncontrollable Urge” “Mongoloid” “Smart Patrol”/”Mr. DNA” “Gates Of Steel” Encore: “Devo Corporate Anthem” “Freedom Of Choice”

This is the best showbiz feud in AGESOh, how we love a celebrity feud. But while we expect lots of bitchy gobbing off from the likes of Lily Allen and Lindsay Lohan, this latest spat is a little more unlikely – Radiohead are involved! The normally quiet and unassuming band have hit back at everyone’s favourite Disney brat Miley Cyrus after she slagged them off for snubbing her at the Grammys. Miley is apparently a long-term fan of the band (even though she wasn’t even born when they started out – scary or what?) but threatened to “ruin” them after they refused to speak to her at the awards last month. “I’d already texted all my friends, we were all freaking out,” she says. “This is someone who I, like, would have cried to have met. Stinkin’ Radiohead!” Anyway, much to our shock, Radiohead have now responded to Miley – and it’s amazing. “When Miley grows up she’ll learn not to have a sense of entitlement,” their spokesperson said. Wow, you tell her Thom! So, she did get a response from her favourite band after all, but perhaps not quite the one she was hoping for...

TGOAT sign to Epitaph RecordsBrighton noise-rockers The Ghost Of A Thousand have announced a deal with Epitaph. "We signed to Epitaph Records!" state the group today in an online update. "Holy shit this is amazing! We're the first British band to sign to Epi' Europe in the history of awesomeness!" “It's a huge deal to be a part of a label that has shaped punk rock in such a massive way," adds vocalist Tom Lacey, "and I feel even better about the fact that our new record has a great home. "We're not resting on our laurels though," he states. "The proper hard work starts now. We've been welcomed in by the staff like a new family member, so we can't let our folks down, we're going to do them proud.” The rowdy five-piece have been working on the the follow up to 2007’s This Is Where The Fight Begins at the Gröndal studios in Stockholm with producer Pelle Gunnerfeldt (The Hives, Refused). The new album, New Hopes, New Demonstrations is set for release on June 1.

Ghost Of A Thousand studio updateThe Ghost Of A Thousand have been updating fans on the progress of their new album. The Brighton mob are currently holed up at the Gröndal studio in Stockholm with producer Pelle Gunnerfeldt (The Hives, Refused) working on the the follow up to 2007’s This Is Where The Fight Begins. "We have been recording the songs as live as we can, concentrating on making the most natural sounding record possible," say the band in an online update. "No click, straight onto tape at this stage, it's all a bit new for us but it's working really well. We have basically been living in heaven as the studio has the most ridiculous selection of vintage guitars and amps, half of which are actually owned by the Hives. We've tracked Bright lights, Neptune (a super fast evil hardcore tune that you've not heard yet), Split The Atom (sleazy 1980's post punk), Moved As Mountains (album opener, very fast, very heavy, "super-crazy" as Pelle puts it), Knees, Toes, Teeth (AC/DC done by us basically) and Running On Empty (Our little rock'n'roll masterpiece). Get it down ya, Have it down ya, Keep it down."

Did Axl Rose Swindle Guns n’ Roses and Steal Slash’s Song? A Guide to Rose’s Online RantsPhoto: Getty Axl Rose didn’t give any magazine or TV interviews to herald the release of Chinese Democracy. But just days after breaking his silence with a pair of Q&As on Guns n’ Roses message boards, Rose has published a 4,594-word post and an additional Q&A on the two fan sites. Those who haven’t been following the Gn’R saga for the past 20 years may be a bit confused by some of his references to age-old beefs with Slash and other bits of Guns jargon. We’ve broken out the juiciest bits and explained them here: Claim I. I didn’t swindle my bandmates. Backstory: Slash has alleged that Axl refused to go onstage one night during the Use Your Illusion tour in 1992 unless the band signed away the name rights to the band. “Unfortunately, we signed it,” said Slash. “I didn’t think he’d on stage otherwise.” Axl’s take: “Never happened, all made up, fallacy and fantasy. Not one single solitary thread of truth to it. Had that been the case I would’ve have been cremated years ago legally, could’ve cleaned me out for the name and damages. It’s called under duress with extenuating circumstances.” Plausibility: Axl makes a surprisingly strong case. Might Slash not have had the clearest head during that tour? Claim II. Slash lied in his book. Backstory: In Slash’s 2007 book the guitarist claims that Guns n’ Roses’ final recording sessions were stalled due to a vast musical direction between himself and Axl. Axl’s take: “I have the rehearsal tapes. There’s nothing but Slash-based blues rock and he stopped it to both go solo and try to completely take over Guns. I read all this if Axl would’ve put words and melodies on it could’ve… I was specifically told no lyrics, no melodies, no changes to anything and to sing what I was told or fuck off.” Plausibility: It’s a classic case of he said, Slash said — but again, Slash’s memory of events from the 1990s is always questionable. Claim III: We won’t reform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Backstory: Fans have been clamoring for a
