Scorpions Album: “Bad For Good: The Very Best of the Scorpions”

Scorpions Album: “Bad For Good: The Very Best of the Scorpions”
Description :
Producers: Dieter Derks, Bruce Fairbairn, Keith Olsen, Scorpions.
Compilation producer: Mike Ragogna.
Principally recorded between 1984 & 1993. Includes liner notes by Gerri Miller.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Three decades in, The Scorpions were still touring in the year 2002 in support of BAD FOR GOOD: THE VERY BEST OF SCORPIONS, an 18-track set drawn from the band's '80s heyday and more low-key '90s output. Benefiting from the solid chemistry between rhythm guitarist/founding member Rudolph Schenker and high-flying lead guitarist Mathias Jabs, along with Klaus Meine's distinctive vocals out front, The Scorpions racked up an impressive canon during an era when heavy metal ruled the roost.
Their most durable cuts were helmed by longtime producer Dieter Dierks, including the scorching anthem "Rock You Like A Hurricane," the soaring "No One Like You," the thunderous "Blackout," and the air-guitar-inducing "Big City Nights." An ability to deliver relatively wide-ranging material always put The Scorpions a notch above your average hard-rock outfit. When they weren't penning memorable power ballads like "Still Loving You," or reflecting on their first visit to New York City's then-decadent 42nd Street ("The Zoo"), The Scorps were credibly covering The Who for a charity album ("Can't Explain"). Most impressive is the global smash "Wind Of Change," a moving song of brotherhood written at a time when The Berlin Wall and The Iron Curtain were falling.

- Scorpions still sting!

This collection is awesome! The two new songs are great & granted, "Deadly Stings" is better because there's more of it, but this is great for the new & uninitiated. Anybody besides me tired of hearing people dog 80s bands? This is some of the greatest music ever & all they talk about is their hair! I guess that's the "hip" thing to do nowadays. How 'bout being an original? THINK FOR YOURSELF & get this collection! Maybe you'll realize what a jerk you've been for putting down things you've never heard! Music was a lot more exciting back then, I'll tell you that. Now...if this will only turn into the best new Scorpions studio album in over a decade. In my humble opinion, they haven't made a great album since "Crazy World" (not counting "Live Bites" which is awesome!!). It's time, guys! The world needs you now more than ever! By the way, these guys are still killer live too! Saw them with Deep Purple & Dio & they rock!! The Wolf

- The two new songs just rule!!!!

Well, I just got this album, and here's my review about it:

I don't wanna say anything about the 16 first songs cos they're not new songs, we all know that those songs are hits and ones of the best of Scorpions! so if you don't know the Scorps, this will really help you know about their music! but what i wanna talk about is the two new songs: "bad for good", and "cause i love you". well, it's been a few times the scorps were talking about a new album coming soon, and that will be a back to the roots album! well, those two songs seem to be samples from the upcoming ablum' style! and this style's just amazing! althought, musically talking, the scorps have released much more professional albums (pure instinct, eye to eye, moment of glory, acoustica), but weren't really rock albums, a bit slower than the old scorps songs, but those two songs really join between the "on the top" music and the ... rock songs! well, if this is the style the scorps are planning for the new album, it will be so good, although the last 4 albums i talked about are the best to me, but this style (bad for good and cause i love u) will satisfy all fans around the world! and still they're not 100% like the old stuff, they really are homogeneous with the new rock music!!! also, about the recording! it just rules! the sound of the guitar is excellent, and also the drums!!!! and the arrangements are so cool (done by dieter dierks), especially on bad for good! thanks matthias for using your voice box on 'cause i love you! i really like its sound! and the way you play on it! keep on rockin' scorps!!!!!! you're just the best!

- Good stings from the german band

I was never a huge Scorpions fan but I did like them, and the fact is they have many really [...] songs. This collection is one you should own if you like 80's hard rock. The only thing missing is a good live version of Rock you like a Hurricane, but is wishful thinking. Anyway get it and enjoy it.

- Packed With Mind Numbing Rock!!!

Many have complained that this CD is not "complete" enough to represent this band. I don't care. It clocks in at 79:55 and all the songs save one are a great listen if you just want straightforward guitar riff rock.

The ballad "Wind of Change" (track 11) is the only song that I don't like - although it apparently was a big hit. It is just too much like all the crappy big hair 80's bands ballads that I never did like. There are a few other ballads on this CD (tracks 6, 8, 12) but they seem to have a little more bite (or should I say sting) to them and are OK.

The two new songs (tracks 17, 18) are fantastic. TMSAISTI.

- A hurricane of rock from the Fatherland!

The Scorpions are definitely one of the greatest and most successful rock bands to emerge out of Germany, and they prove it to you 18 times of on this collection "Bad For Good: The Very Best of Scorpions". Now as you may realize, this is not an absolutely perfect compilation. There is, after all, the three-disc "Box of Scorpions" that goes for around 35 bucks or so. But hey, if you're planning on spending that much money, it might as well be on the original albums, right? Anyway...

This compilation has everything, packing a big, German-styled melodic-metal punch that delivers the goods. From the powerhouse rockers of "Blackout", "No One Like You", "Rock You Like A Hurricane" and "Big City Nights", to the beautiful ballads of "Send Me An Angel", "Wind of Change" or "Still Loving You", and the slower, more progressive tracks like "Loving You Sunday Morning" and "The Zoo" this album has plenty of greats.

In addition, it comes with two new songs, the balladic "Bad For Good" and the talk-box guitar riff driven "Cause I Love You". Plus, the album comes complete with great linter notes, photos of the band, and pictures of their ever-ridiculous album covers! So if you wanna get into the Scorpions, this is a great place to start. Thanks for the time, and peace.
