Festival Roundup: Ozzy Joins Monsters of Rock, GZA and De La Soul Lead Paid Dues

What’s a Wednesday in April without the announcement of more summer festivals? We’ll start off in rock-happy Calgary, Alberta, where Ozzy Osbourne will perform at this year’s Monsters of Rock festival on July 26th. Joining the Ozzman will be Serj Tankian, Judas Priest, Dillinger Escape Plan, Shadows Fall and many other monsters. Meanwhile, the mobile Paid Dues Festival will feature hip-hop acts like Wu-Tang’s GZA, Rakim, De La Soul, Blackalicious, Little Brother and many more. Full dates for that trek are listed below. Shadows Fall cover Ozzy!

Massachusetts metellers Shadows Fall have confirmed that they will be releasing their cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s Bark At The Moon as their next single. The track, which was available on the deluxe edition of their 2009 album, Retribution, will be released in early March.

Shadows Fall start own label

Shadows Fall will release the follow-up to their 2007 album, Threads Of Life, later this year through their own record label. The band have stared an as yet unnamed new venture with the Warner Music Group and cult indie label Ferret. "All of us could not be more excited about this," says vocalist Brian Fair. "We have always been a band that tried to maintain as much control over our career as possible."

Killswitch member's new project

Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz and ex-KSE vocalist Jesse Leach are currently recording material for new project Times of Grace. Writing on Leach’s Myspace page, the pair describe the new songs as “an epic mix of Metal/Rock/Pop/Shoe gaze & Punk. All of your metal expectations will be incorrect, we are pushing genre boundaries”. Both metallers are having a go at vocals, with melodic harmonies alongside “the most brutal screams I think I have ever done, I was literally shaking as they came out of my stomach”, says Leach. A tentative release date for the finished material is Summer 2009, with the promise of a Myspace teaser “in the coming months”. Times of Grace is one of several KSE-related projects currently on the boil. Overcast (featuring Killswitch bassist Mike D’Antonio, one-time guitarist Pete Cortese and Shadows Fall vocalist Brian Fair) recently released their first album in 10 years, Reborn To Kill Again through Metal Blade Records.
