Simply Red

Simply Red Album: “Simplified”

Simply Red Album: “Simplified”
Description :
Simply Red: Mick Hucknall (vocals); Dave Clayton, Gota Yashiki, Sarah Brown, Simon Hale, Anthea Clarke. <p>The UK pop/soul act Simply Red maintained a fairly low profile in the United States during the first few years of the 21st century, but that changed with the 2005 release of SIMPLIFIED. Issued on the Verve Forecast imprint, the album presents vocalist Mick Hucknall and company easing into new arrangements of their most well-known songs, including "Holding Back the Years," which gets a gentle, flamenco-inflected rendition. Hucknall's distinctive voice is in fine form here, and though the red-haired frontman unveils a more subdued approach on some tunes, he showcases his passionate singing on a number of tracks, most notably the previously unreleased single "Perfect Love," which coasts along on Cuban-influenced rhythms and a celebratory Santana-like vibe.

- Old favorites rethought and reinterpreted!

Simply Red's new album is a fantastic blend of their older hits reinterpreted and including a new song (Perfect Love) in two versions. While the album title suggests that the songs have been "simplified", it might be true for the arrangements but the vocal performance of Mick Hucknall shines as on the original recordings (all of the songs were recorded in 2005). A great album for next year would be an "amplified" remix album, maybe it will happen! My favorite song is the stripped down version of Your Mirror and the Latin-flavored "Something Got Me Started".

- OH, TO SING LIKE MICK!

I can't believe I'm the first to review this wonderful new CD by the incredible Simply Red! Only in my dreams can I sing as good as Mick. This is a great new album of some new, some old. Everything sounds clean and refreshed and better the second time around. This guy has survived the 80's, the 90's and is doing better than ever before. His voice is brilliant and sounds deeper and richer and is just plain "FIERCE", and I mean that in the best possible way too. If you are a fan of Simply Red than this is a must have. If you've never tried Simply Red before than this is the one to get you started. Then go and try the beautiful "Home" CD, one of their best, you won't be sorry.

- Simplified and stripped down

Simply Red goes easy listening on this album. Every track is either a re-recording or the original master minus percussion. We hear a piano plus a string ensemble on many of these tracks. This is an ideal album for easy listening music fans, especially senior citizens who can't stand the sound of hard rock or heavy metal. Marty Balin clone Mick Hucknall, the band's frontman gives fans a nice collection of hit songs in subtle form.

- Hucknel just doesn't stop

Simplified brings some new along with old favorites. Simply Red "smoothed" out old classics. The new material is just as good as the 20 year old tunes. A must for any Simply Red fan. And a cd that new listeners will enjoy.
