There are often times where so many acts can either be displayed beautifully or flawed when it comes to their greatest hits record. Although there have been numerous one that have worked for performers like Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart, and Donna Summer, other times it has missed the mark. For Simply Red, that actually isn't the case with them. Although Mick Hucknall and company have had a few decent greatest hits packages since 1996, they just don't have the feeling they used to a few years ago. Now, another hits package has emerged, and the question is does it deliver?
Simply Red's 2006 If You Don't Know Me By Now and Other Hits from Flashback, Warner's budget label, is a single disc reflection of the U.K. soul group during its hey day during the 80's. The album includes some of their big tracks like their rendidtion of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes If You Don't Know Me By Now, and Holding Back The Years, as well as other good songs. While the album does try to deliver, the album does overlook a lot of great tracks from Simply Red like Stars tracks Something Got Me Started, and Your Mirror, ans other songs like You Make Me Feel Brand New, Home, and Blue.
All in all, if you're a fan of Simply Red, you are definitely better off sticking with the 1996 greatest hits record instead, becasue it is a more defnitive reflection of Simply Red's music. As for this collection, it is definitely something you should hold back from buying.
