Stars Come Out For New York Premiere of Rolling Stones’ “Shine a Light” For a complete gallery of photos from this show, click here. According to Ron Wood, the four core members of the Rolling Stones are little more than schoolboys, with only their descriptors shifting (Keith being a “thieving” schoolboy, while Mick is of the “sly” variety). But this comparison to co-eds on the red carpet at last night’s premiere of Shine a Light was apt, as the Martin Scorsese-helmed concert film about the Stones’ 2006 two-night stint at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre paints the band as more youthful than collectives half their age: Mick swivels his hips; Keith lunges during skyrocketing riffs; Ronnie flashes his ripped biceps; Charlie thwacks his kit insistently. Jagger wouldn’t unveil his secret for maintaining his high onstage energy levels, but he did reveal it has nothing to do with a health regimen. “I didn’t go to the gym and I had no vitamins,” he said of the days on which the film was shot. But perhaps Wood ingested some B-12 before the premiere, as the guitarist practically skipped down the red carpet gushing with excitement, gamely jawing with anybody who wanted his time. He even grinned while musing about Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, offering the starlets the following nugget: “You gotta go through it to get to it.” Fashion mogul and rabid Stones fan Tommy Hilfiger may have been even more exhilarated than Wood. When asked why he likes the band, the designer put it simply: “Ron. Keith. Mick. Charlie.” Gina Gershon, meanwhile, joked about how she hates the band (she really doesn’t). Rock Daily also spied Jerry Bruckheimer and was told Leonardo DiCaprio found an alternative entrance route to the red carpet. Before the premiere, Scorsese discussed his long-held esteem for the band. “Their music has dealt with aspects of the life that I was growing up around, and it’s been a well of inspiration to this day,” the director said whil

"Red Harvest" by BloodsimpleBloodsimple's Red Harvest feels like it should have come out during rock 'n roll's glory days in the '60s and '70s. Instead, it just happens to be one of the most substantive and vibrant heavy music releases of 2007. Vocalist Tim Williams weaves lyrical tapestries of road-weary killers, drug addicts and outlaws over the course of 11 pummeling, but entrancing tracks. Are the requisite bludgeoning grooves and razor sharp riffs prominent? Yes. Let's not forget that Bloodsimple's ranks consist of veterans of the groundbreaking hardcore band Vision of Disorder—Williams and Mike Kennedy (guitar). Here, however, the band channels its brutality into a cohesive and focused narrative, with vibrant characters. Williams has possessed one of metal's most distinct voices since his days in Vision of Disorder, and on "Dead Man Walking," "Out to Get You" and especially "Truth," his vocals simply soar as he seamlessly switches from a guttural growl to a near-croon. Is There Anyplace Timbaland Won’t Go Pimp His New Album?Timbaland hopped onto Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveShow tour and showcased material from the guest-star-heavy Timbaland Presents Shock Value during weird DJ-break intermissions. He premiered the video for “Throw It On Me” on the WWE’s Monday Night RAW show. He made headlines for announcing he’s working with Celine Dion and hit the gossips for instructing Britney Spears to apologize to him and Timberlake for ditching their collaboration. And now, to ensure he hasn’t ignored the housewife/unemployed-recent-grad demo, he’s going to perform on soap opera One Life to Live. On an episode airing October 9th, Timbaland will play “The Way I Are” with Keri Hilson (joining an eclectic list of onetime OLTL performers that includes Mary J. Blige, Lifehouse and Simply Red). How pumped is Timbaland to conquer daytime drama? In a statement, he said, “This is a new experience for me. I am looking forward to having a great time and sharing my music!”

Coachella Day Two: The VerdictThe last time I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers play a big festival was way back at Woodstock ’99, when their closing set led right into an hours-long bout of rioting, looting and arson by fans who were sick of paying $4 for water (and possibly also ashamed of themselves for liking Limp Bizkit so much). By comparison, the conclusion of Saturday night’s Coachella headlining set by the Chili Peppers was anticlimactic: Flea simply wished everyone “peace and love” following sing-a-long versions of “Under the Bridge” (“yeah, yeah, FUCK yeah!” sang the frat dude next to me) and “By the Way.” The Peppers’ set was solid but unspectacular, weighed down in the middle by a few too many mid-tempo tunes from Stadium Arcadium –- these guys have headlined so many festivals that this performance lacked a sense of occasion. (The biggest surprise was Anthony Kiedis’ luxuriant mustache –- a far sturdier model than the fuzzy thing sported by Interpol’s Carlos D the night before.) Kiedis’ always-shaky pitch wandered off a few times, but John Frusciante’s falsetto harmonies never wavered. And there were some amazing moments, including Flea’s jaw-droppingly complex bass line on a brief cover of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” and Frusciante’s Hendrixian lead-guitar freak-outs throughout, which are more flamboyant than ever. Right before the Chili Peppers, the Arcade Fire gave a main-stage performance that felt like a coronation, drawing a sprawling crowd of tens of thousands: The big stage and fearsomely loud sound system and were just right for their grandiose songs, which finally swelled to the U2-and-Springsteen proportions they always had in them. They didn’t shy from the stadium-rock thing: During an epic “Rebellion (Lies),” frontman Win Butler walked off stage and into the audience, singing in their faces, Bono-style. Their set was front-loaded with the less ecstatic songs from their new album, Neon Bible, which meant they were able to unleash the full-on anthems from Funeral one after a

White Stripes Reveal Secret Collaborator (Beck), Secret Video (”Conquest”), Secret Talent (Bullfighting) Last week, the White Stripes posted on their Web site that they will have a new single, “an exciting new video” and three new songs out soon. Apparently, the Stripes were just as impatient to reveal the details as we were to hear them. The most noteworthy revelation is that Beck has been cast as their “secret collaborator” (and not Bob Dylan). The duo recorded three songs in Mr. Hansen’s living room, with all three Beck-produced songs landing on the B-side of a trio of multi-colored 7″s for the next single, “Conquest.” The “Black vinyl” includes “It’s My Fault for Being Famous,” which features Beck on vocals and piano, while the “White vinyl” has “Honey, We Can’t Afford to Look This Cheap,” which has Beck on slide guitar. The “Red vinyl” contains “Cash Grab Complications on the Matter,” which simply just has Beck as producer. If you can’t get your hands on any of these 7″s, or you just don’t have a record player, all three, plus a mariachi version of “Conquest,” will be available digitally. The last bit of news might well be the best: For the “Conquest” video, Jack White will play a matador. To make the video “as authentic as possible,” White “trained extensively” with an actual bullfighter named Dennis Borba. Borba has his own Web site and bull-riding school, so you know he’s the real deal. The video was shot in two days in Artesia, California, and follows “an explosive — if unconventional — love story that pits man against bull in the ultimate conquest.” The video is set to premiere on MTV on November 26th (imagine that, videos on MTV) before conquesting over to iTunes the next day.
