Slade Album: “In For a Penny - Rave”

Slade Album: “In For a Penny - Rave”
Description :
Slade: Dave Hill, Don Powell, Jim Lea, Noddy Holder.
Recording information: 1970 - 1977.
Neither a best-of nor a rarities comp, Slade's IN FOR A PENNY: RAVES & FAVES collects deep album cuts and b-sides from the band's '70s heyday. And, wow, is it a rip-roarer! By foregoing the hits and concentrating on great lesser-known tracks, Shout! Factory has created the perfect stepping-stone for casual fans to get deeper into this undeniably great band without having to sift through a multitude of records to find the good stuff. All comps should be this well done.
The tracks, nary a clunker among them, reveal a band that could do far more than raise fists and hack the English language, although they were no slouches in those regards either. Early gems like "Shape of Things to Come" and "C'mon C'mon" show that Slade could hang with AC/DC and the MC5 in terms of primitive energy and power, while the trippy "Wonderin' Y" demonstrates a surprising tender side. Naturally, boogie stomps such as "Don't Blame Me" and "Do We Still Do It" are all over the place and nobody does them better. This comp is the ideal place to feel Slade's awesome "noize."

- A question for you:

Did you like the "Get Yer Boots On" best of Slade compilation?

Did you want more Slade?

If you answered yes, then "In For A Penny" is meant for you.

Its a collection of B-sides, album cuts, lesser hits, etc. for the people that don't own all of Slades albums, but do own a best of comp and would like a little more.

And to that end, it succeeds very well, the tracks on the collection may not be Slade classics like "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" or "Run Runaway" but they follow the Slade tradition of being big fun stomping rockers and interesting ballads all so trashy and hooky that you can't help but love them.

Its a good buy if you have a best of comp, but if you DON'T have a best of comp, you'll wanna get one before getting this.

- WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

If you are looking for a best-of collection by this band, this is the one to get! These tracks are much better than "Get Your Boots On" & the best one to get for any Slade fan; simply can't go wrong here.

- Slade por Vida

The insert says this is a companion piece to Get Yer Boots On. I agree. Every track on here is excellent. GYBO took the hits that charted. These are ones that charted but not as high but are just as good. I can't say which songs are the best because they are all good. My personal favorite is When the Lights are Out. The volume on C'mon C'mon drops out a little. I am not sure if this is intentional but I got over it. If you loved GYBO this album will not disappoint. It gets better with repeated listenings. That is a sure sign of a great album.
