Wentz on Fall Out Boy’s Status: Twitter Needs “A Sarcastic Font”Photo: Wargo/WireImagePete Wentz has been making a lot of statements lately – on his blog, on Twitter and on his T-shirts for his Clandestine clothing line. So how can it be that there is still confusion regarding Fall Out Boy’s situation? Is the band broken up? On a break? What’s the deal? The bassist tried to help clear things up backstage at Clandestine’s show presented by STYLE360 during New York’s Fashion Week on Tuesday night, when he explained that not all things posted on Twitter are mea

News Ticker: Yoko Ono, Foxy Brown, Miley Cyrus, The Strokes Yoko Ono is fighting in court to prevent a film of John Lennon smoking pot and talking about putting LSD in President Richard Nixon’s tea from being shown publicly. The footage was shot in 1970 — just weeks before the Beatles split up — by Ono’s previous husband Anthony Cox. Less than a week after being released from prison, Foxy Brown was back in court yesterday for a status hearing regarding her assault case from a 2007 incident at a Florida beauty salon. Brown attempted to plea deal without her attorney, which made her attorney resign, delaying the case for two more weeks. Fifteen-year-old Disney sensation Miley Cyrus will write about her ascension to stardom in a memoir that is set to published next spring. The Strokes are planning to start work on the follow-up to 2006’s First Impressions of Earth, bassist Nikolai Fraiture posted on the band’s website. “I’d like to say that I’m still looking very forward to a fourth album release. We just need to work out a few technical kinks,” Fraiture said. [Photo: Getty]

Blink-182’s Rock Show: A Look Back at The Pop-Punk Trio’s History in PhotosPhoto: Weekes/WireImage “We played music together and we decided we’re going to play music together again,” Travis Barker told the Grammy audience when Blink-182 reunited to present the Best Rock Album award Sunday night. For Blink, it was their first time onstage together since December 2004, two months before the band went on an indefinite hiatus. Now that the band has confirmed a new album is in the works, Rolling Stone is taking a look back at their history in a new photo gallery: Blink-182’s Rock Show. Blink-182 formed in 1992 in Poway, California, but it wasn’t until 1998 that guitarist Tom DeLonge and bassist Mark Hoppus recruited Barker to play drums on the band’s best-selling album, 1999’s Enema of the State. The band stuck around for two more albums, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and Blink-182, before its big break. Hoppus and drummer Barker went on to form +44 while DeLonge started up Angels & Airwaves. Following the 2008 jet crash that nearly took the life of Barker and DJ AM, Hoppus blogged that he was hopeful that a Blink reunion could happen after admitting that he and DeLonge were once again friends. “Hi. We’re blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We’re back,” the band said in a post-Grammy statement on their Website. “We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy. “Summer 2009. Thanks and get ready… ” the band says to conclude the statement. To help you get ready, check out our photo gallery capturing Blink through the ages, from the Dude Ranch era with drummer Scott Raynor to their stint on the Warped Tour to their little people-backed performance at the MTV Music Awards. After Bruce Springsteen, Who’s Next for the Super Bowl?Photo: Mazur/WireImage After decades of sugar-coated pop debacles, the NFL has served up a parade of legends during halftime of the big game. In recent years, the Super Bowl has delivered Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, U2, Tom Petty, Aerosmith and now Bruce Springsteen. But where does the NFL go from here? It’s a tall order to fill: applicants must be legendary but still active, rocking but not raucous, and as big as the game itself. So who’s left? Oddsmakers are already lining up favorites for next year’s Lombardi Trophy (The Patriots? Really? No love for your new champs, the Pittsburgh Steelers? Your loss, Vegas.), so we thought we’d set the odds for next year’s halftime show. The NFL could go country (Tim McGraw? Taylor Swift?) or pop (Kelly Clarkson will soon return to us), but you have to presume they’ll stick with what works — big rock from big names. We have, of course, completely pulled these names and numbers out of thin air, plus gambling’s illegal just about everywhere, so keep your money in your wallet. The Who Pros: Legendary band with a sound louder than the game itself. Cons: None. They’re the Who. Odds: 3/2 Bon Jovi Pros: A catalog full of arena rock sing-along jams and status as one of the biggest bands in the world make them a solid choice. Cons: Bon Jovi coming on the heels of Springsteen might cause a full on Jersey meltdown. Odds: 2/1 AC/DC Pros: These kings of arena rock are mainstays over stadium PA systems across the NFL. Cons: Brian Johnson’s howl might scare your kids. Odds: 3/1 John Mellencamp Pros: Heartland rock would play great on the most American stage of them all. Cons: He’s done the World Series… Would the NFL double dip? Odds: 4/1 Metallica Pros: The biggest hard rock band of the last 20 years. Cons: Are they too metal for the mainstream? Odds: 5/1 Van Halen Pros: Reunited hard rock legends with a busload of stadium-ready anthems. Cons: If you thought Springsteen’s crotch-first slide was a bit much, wait until Diamond Dave ge

Pete Wentz on Next Fall Out Boy LP: No “Happy Fairy Tales” Last month, Pete Wentz told MTV News that the next Fall Out Boy album will be so riff-heavy, it might sound like AC/DC. The bassist confirms to Rolling Stone that he and singer-guitarist Patrick Stump are working on new tracks this summer the way they usually do: “Patrick’s obviously been writing all the music, and the words haven’t even really come in yet,” Wentz says. “I’ll go over to Patrick’s house and he’ll kind of just sit there and play songs, and I’ll be like, ‘Ah, that one’s awesome!’” So will Wentz’s lyrics reflect his new status as a new husband and expectant father? “I think that it’s kind of blown out of control,” he says. “That people expect us to have a happy fairy tale record or something.” He notes that the band wanted to get started on new music sooner, but their cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” stood in the way. “I’m psyched to write new songs,” he says. “‘Beat It’ took off a little bit and that kind of stalled out our label and stuff like, ‘We gotta film a video for this.’ We weren’t in the right headspace to write songs before,” he adds. “We tried to before we went to Chile, and it makes a lot more sense now. We became good friends again, which is good.” [Photo: Lai/Getty]

Def Leppard Consider Indie Status As Label Contract EndsPhoto: Kane/Getty After almost 30 years of major label success, Def Leppard are considering going the indie route. “For the last five or six years we haven’t had the greatest of support from our record label,” singer Joe Elliott told The Age. “We signed our contract in 1979, a lot of regimes ago. Once there was respect for what you’d done, but it’s all just bean-counters now. I find that very sad.” With their contract expiring and no major offers in sight, the band are considering going the same course as bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails. “If Radiohead and the Eagles can go off and do it on their own, that’s an acceptable yardstick to measure our own chances by,” said Elliott. Radiohead enjoyed great success in this new frontier, the Eagles raked in the royalties from Long Road Out of Eden thanks to a deal with Wal-Mart. Elliott believes that Def Leppard has been around long enough that they no longer need the major label support, as their fanbase is firmly set. With no deal in place, Elliott says the band will seek a lucrative agreement for touring and online sales while recording as independent artists. It's official: Blink 182 are backAfter going on an "indefinite hiatus" in December 2004, rumours about the reformation of pop punk heroes Blink 182 have been banded about the internet on pretty much a daily basis. And now it's official: Blink 182 are back. The trio - Tom Delonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker - confirmed their reunion after an appearance at the 51st annual Grammy Awards, which took place on February 8 at the Staples Center, Los Angeles. The band presented Coldplay with an award for Best Rock Album. In an official statement, the band said: “Hi. We’re blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We’re back. We mean, really back. "Four on the Floor (Bonus Tracks)" by Juliette & the LicksDespite the sort of relentless touring that would earn most upstart bands their credibility stripes, Juliette Lewis still garners skepticism due to her "actress-turned-rocker" status. That criticism rings fairly hollow, though. Four on the Floor, like its predecessor (her debut), points to Lewis being the genuine article. While she's clearly not going to be reinventing the wheel, Lewis and her band pump out smartly simple retro-garage rockers that aim for the groin, lodge in the head, and sound great with a beer. Lewis is aided by non-Lick Dave Grohl, who bashes away on the drumset with reliable glee. An especially accessible early stretch on the album—featuring "Sticky Honey" and "Purgatory Blues," among others—gets waylaid by the ragged "Death of a Whore," one of several speed bumps that strain for a rawness the band and the vocals can't quite muster. On record, the Licks also suffer from the lack of Lewis' considerable panache as a performer, which

Neil Young: “There’ll Never Be Another Crazy Horse”Photo: Willnow/AFP/Getty This past October Neil Young sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss his Linc Volt Project and his future music plans, including his new Crazy Horse album Toast, his world tour and his endlessly delayed box set. Since our conversation we’ve learned that the planned January 27th release date is a “non-starter for certain” and it will be out “perhaps March or April.” We’ll believe it when we see it, but here is the music portion of the Q&A. On this tour you’ve played a few songs like “Time Fades Away” that you haven’t touched in decades. What drew you back to that material? Well, basically I do it out of just interest in what this band can do. I have so many songs, and now with this band I can play just about anything. As you’ll see in the show we’re equally at home with “Love and Only Love” or “Out of the Blue, Into the Black” and then “Old Man” and “Heart of Gold.” All my other bands were always one thing or the other. Some people may look at Crazy horse and go, “That was the greatest thing that ever happened, Crazy Horse. There’ll never be another Crazy Horse.” And they’re right. There’ll never be another Crazy Horse, but I won’t be another Crazy Horse either. I’m not going to be. I don’t want to be. I’ve done that, you know. What I’m feeling good about is that I have a band now that I can play anything with, but even more important, I can play anything I want to that’s new. I’m not limited to what kind of new music I can make. There’s no limit. What’s the status of your next album, Toast? Toast is done. It’s amazing listening experience. It was recorded in 5.1. It’s a mind blowing record, and I don’t think it’s a commercial record, but it’s great rock and roll, very moody, kind of jazzy. It was recorded in the same place where Coltrane was recorded, so there’s a lot of heavy stuff in there. All of the live ambiance for everything was all recorded, so the whole thing has got a massive sound about it. I want to have a premier of it that’
