Los Angeles-based soul/funk band Orgone is scheduled to play Turner Hall Oct. 30, while The Rave has booked a double bill with Streetlight Manifesto and Reel Big Fish Dec. 7, plus Dance Gavin Dance Dec. 10. AWOLNATION's plays The Rave II on Nov. 12.

Plentiful ska imitators' heavy handed brass and over-salted simplification have left a bitter taste in many mouths. Frustrating for fans, yes, but not as annoying as haughty disregard for a style that's given us three waves of musicians like Desmond Dekker, Operation Ivy and No Doubt.

WHAT: Breezy, brassy new wave ska will be the soundtrack when Reel Big Fish and Streetlight Manifesto headline a bill with U.K. ska-punk outfit New Riot and electro-folk act Rodeo Ruby Love. The latter has a sound that has been likened to ska without the horns. (Go figure.) As for Reel Big Fish, the band has been around since the mid-1990s, but expect the energy to still be high on its own songs ...
