On the Charts: Sugarland Beats Out Miley For Top SpotThe Big News: A week after running-up to Miley Cyrus, country band Sugarland overtook the teen sensation to claim the number one spot as their Love on the Inside pushed 171,000 in its second week. Cyrus’ Breakout settled for second, selling another 162,000 copies. The top five was rounded out by the usual suspects, with the Mamma Mia soundtrack, Kid Rock’s Rock N Roll Jesus and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III claiming the remaining places. Weezy’s TC3 also pushed past the two million sales after eight weeks on the charts. Debuts: Praise rockers Third Day led a relatively weak crop of debuts, selling 74,000 to lock up sixth place. The fourteenth installment of the venerable Kidz Bop series grabbed eight. System of a Down side project Scars on Broadway took 17 with their self-titled debut, Rick Springfield managed to claim 28 with his new album Venus in Overdrive and Alice Cooper’s Along Came a Spider crept in at 53. Last Week’s Heroes: Same last week’s heroes as last week, except they sold a lot less copies this time around. The top five all stayed in the top five with some reshuffling. Despite a 45% drop in sales from the previous week, Sugarland still somehow claimed the top spot, likely because Miley Cyrus dropped 56% in sales. Only Kid Rock managed to stave off any percentile decrease with sales up 3% and a firm hold on the four slot in its astonishing 43rd week on the chart. [Photo: Miller/Getty]

The Eagles, Kenny Chesney Lead Country Music Award NominationsPhoto: Getty The Eagles, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and former Idols Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler were among those nominated for Country Music Association Awards today. Kenny Chesney led all finalists with seven noms, while Sugarland and George Strait each earned five nominations. The Eagles made the shortlist in the Vocal Group category, marking the first time since 1977 that the band picked up a CMA nomination in that category (they lost to the Statler Brothers). Alison Krauss has already won six CMA awards, but her Raising Sand cohort Robert Plant received his first nomination, as the duo was nominated for Musical Event. Krauss, Underwood and Taylor Swift will face off in the heated Female Vocalist category, while Pickler is up for the New Artist award. Kenny Chesney, George Strait Win Big At CMANASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kenny Chesney won his fourth entertainer of the year award and George Straight became the most-honored artist in CMA Awards history at Wednesday's ceremony, a show highlighted by a lavish performance by Taylor Swift, a surprise appearance by rapper Lil Wayne, and the return of one of country's biggest stars, Shania Twain. "You look really good," Chesney remarked to Twain, who wore a sexy, low-cut dress as she presented Chesney with his award. Twain is one of country's best-selling artists, but has spent the last several years out of the spotlight. She hadn't been on the show in four years. After winning the evening's top award, Chesney said: "As much as tonight is about awards, I really believe that being able to stand up here is more about great songs, more about the fans, more about being on stage every night in front of a lot of people that really make it happen for me and the band out there." "This is my fourth time standing up here, and I'm really humbled and I really appreciate it," added Chesney. The award _ his third straight win in the category _ helped Chesney avoid a shutout. He was the night's lead nominee with seven but did not pick up a trophy in the other categories. George Strait won single and album of the year. The wins made him the act with the most awards in the history of the Country Music Association Awards, with 22 total. Strait thanked the songwriters for "letting me sing such a beautiful song" after the poignant "I Saw God Today" won single of the year. He later won album of the year for "Troubadour." "Everybody says they've got the greatest fans. Well, I've really got the greatest fans," Strait said in accepting the album award. Also winning two awards was Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland. Sugarland won the award for duo of the year, and earlier, Nettles won song of the year for Sugarland's hit "Stay." "It's just been a gift from the beginning and been a gift to write and I hope it's been a gift and touched yo
