I've had this album for 5 months now and I still listen regularly. What I like about Sum 41's music is emotion. You can just feel the emotion from their songs. This album is no different. This is one of those albums where you don't particularly have a favorite song or two; I just enjoy listening to the entire album. Actually, maybe Happiness Machine is my favorite. :) The way they wrote the songs are a little different; not your typical Verse1, Chorus, Verse2, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus formula. (Reminds me a little bit of Linkin Park's
.) It's fresh yet it still has the same important element as with their previous albums: emotion!
Ive been a big Sum 41 fan every since 2000. I am the only person that I know that likes them more than Blink 182. I was so highly anticipating this album the i bought it the day it came out. And Ive had it for about a year now so I think it was about time I wrote a review.
Overall I love the album, but there are a couple songs I dont really care for.
The two "Bad" songs are 'Babe you don't wanna know' and 'Time for you to go'
I completly hate 'Babe you dont wanna know' it reminds me of green day and I hate that band.
But the two songs that I think are instant hits are "Blood in my eyes" and "Back where I belong". Those 2 songs just remind me of the old sum 41 that I always loved and still miss.
Overall I would give the album a Solid 4/5.
I haven't heard these guys in years until Pandora pumped them into one of my stations.
This CD has a solid mix of their more punk songs and their softer side. I wish it was more like the CD "Does this look infected" since I loved every song on there, but this one is good too!
I listen to this album all the time. I hate that it took me so long to figure out what a terrific band they are!
This is not the sums best album, so if you're new to sum 41 I would skip this album. And start off by listening to AKNF or UH. The songs need to have more verses and choruses in some songs. I rate this album a 4.5/5.
1. Reason to Believe- This song was supposed to be on the album Chuck. But never made it. But the piano part in this songs is excellent. Drums are crispy, guitars are clear and the bass is deep. 8.5/10
2. Screaming Bloody Murder- One of the best songs on here. The more you listen to it, the more you will like it. The solo sounds some what like Dave( the old guitarist of sum 41) would play. Lyrics are good on here as-well. 9/10
3. Skumfuk- If it never had the intro, I would like this song a lot more. It's not bad, but could be better. The ending where Deryck sing without nothing but the piano in the background is the best part. Lyrics are very good on here. 8/10
4. Time For You to Go- This song reminds some people of Green Day. But it's nothing like them. This is one of the more pop punk songs on here. Solo is nice and clean and the vocals are some what different sounding. Not too bad of a song. But I son't really like other than the solo. 7/10
5.Jessica Kill- This song I just can't warm up to. It's not a bad song musically, but I don't really like the lyrics to it.
6.5/10
6. What Am I To Say- This is one of the best songs on this album. Starts slow but builds up on the choruses. Lyrics are excellent and the vocals, and guitar are excellent. 10/10
7. Holy Image of Lies- The first minute into this song is boring but the rest is just awesome. The piano and the drums go together perfectly. 8/10
8. Sick of Everyone- This song is another excellent song. It just needs more choruses and verses, to make it epic. But I still like it just as much without it. 10/10
9. Happiness Machine- The is a great song to end " The Dark Road Out of Hell". Verse are heavy and the choruses are light. Except for the last one. The guitars are repeated a little, but you don't really notice.
9.5/10
10. Crash- This is is a all piano song, except for the chorus. The chorus messes up the whole song. Everything would be perfect if the chorus's chords had been change and without the distortion on the guitar. 8/10
11. Blood In My Eyes- This should have been the next single. Everything is perfect. 10/10
12. Baby You Don't Wanna Know- One of the blah songs. Skip it. 6.5/10
13. Back Where I Belong- Not bad, not too good. But it is still lyrically very good. The bridge is my favorite part. 7.5/10
14. Exit Song- To me this sounds like a sad song. But if you listen to all the songs, they kinda tell a story. This is the end of the story, this song. 9/10
The Sums could have done better, but I'm still very happy with this album. I would buy it if I never had the chance to.
It's worth all the money. Overall I rate it: Guitars: 8/10, Drums:10/10, Bass: 8/10, Piano: 10/10, Vocals: 10/10
Total: 9.5/10
