Well, it was 2001, and for some reason they were showing a 15 second clip of "In too deep" on Nickelodeon. I was 7, and I was into Green Day at the time, and I thought their sound was great, so I went to the store and bought this album. At that time, I didn't realize how amzing this album was, but I sure do now. This is not only a great album, but it's probably one of the top 3 best pop-punk albums of all time. I don't skip one song, and every song has me singing along. All Killer No Filler is one of the best albums in my collection, and I'm sure it will always be.
All Killer No Filler starts out with an intro called "Introduction To Destruction" which is funny, and it made for a great intro before they played their shows (ex: Live in Astoria). 8/10
Next up is "Nothing on my Back" which is a great way to kick this album off. The chorus is catchy and easy to remember, and this is definatly a highlight of the album. 10/10
"Never Wake Up" is like 44 seconds long and pretty hard to understand, it's fast and probably was just added as filler (contradicting the title) but it's good filler anyway. 8/10
"Fat Lip" is one of the best pop-punk songs of all time. It's catchy hooks and raps on the verses have you singing along each time it comes on the radio, the stereo or wherever you hear it. The video for this song is also awesome. 10/10
"Rhythms" comes next, and I recommend it. It is probably my third favorite. The guitar is what hooks you in at the beginning and the chorus sticks in your head for days. 10/10
Despite what many people will say the third single "Motivations" is actually not one of my favorites. The chorus is pretty good, but I don't listen to this one very much, and as I recall, I never did like it too much. Still it's a good song, just not my type. 8/10
Ah yes, "In Too Deep", probably my favorite song on the album. I remember this was the first song that I memorized the words too on this album. I love this song, and the video is amazing, I remember the first time i saw the clip of bizzy d diving on nickolodeon before I bought this album. This will probably always be my favorite song by Sum 41 because it was the first that I ever heard. 10/10
"Summer" is a great song, but after I bought Half Hour Of Power (My second Sum 41 cd) I realized this was almost the exact same recording and that was dissapoining. It still gets five stars cuz I love the words and the music. 10/10
"Handle This" is another one of my favorite songs from the album because it is different, and I thought it was cool that they did a slower song, plus it had great lyrics and awesome guitar playing by dave. 10/10
To this day, I still don't get why they names song 10 "Crazy Amanda Bunkface", but it's a good song, and it's a faster one, and I like to rock out and run around and stuff to it. Catchy lyrics, strange name. 10/10
"All She's Got" is so friggin catchy, I can't get it out of my head on any day. The bridge featurs great guitar playing for dave as usual and bizzy d sings great. Awesome song. And it's also great live. 10/10
"Heart Attack" is a cool song, cuz it goes from slow to fast and soft to loud, and is pretty much the only song on the album that does that. As I said, I like different songs, this one, is another one that is about liking sleep (see Never Wake Up) and in my opinion, I think Never Wake Up should have been placed in front of this song instead, cuz it'd make alot more sense. 10/10
"Pain For Pleasure" is a joke song with Steve-O 32 on vocals, I'm pretty sure it's just filler, It's a funny listen, I like it. 8/10
Overall Grade: 94 A-
This is probably one of the best pop-punk albums of all time, and for fans of Green Day and Blink-182, This is a must have. This is Sum 41's best cd. But if you are looking for selections like this one, buy their debut Half Hour of Power, their dvd, Introduction to Destruction, and then buy Does This Look Infected? and Chuck, which are different than this album due to Dave Baksh's harder influences. Due to Dave's recent departure from Sum 41 to start his own harder band, The Brown Brigade, Sum 41 may be going back to its Pop-Punk roots. Still, their two newer releases are great.
when the varsity cheerleaders at your school start to love Sum 41, you will finially realize, like I have, that they have gone way too mainstream. punk rock bands don't get tons of air time on MTV. it's just something that doesn't happen. sum 41 is pop. it's not bad, but that's what it is. so lets all accept it and move on.
So like this album is like crazy fast right. I mean, you can listen the whole thing thru and it gets you sooo pumped up with adrenaline that you feel like you can take on anyone! Have it blasting in your car stereo with some crazy loud speakers and before you know it, the people in the cars next to you are rocking out!! Even grams and gramps!! Totally recommend this album AND any other album released by Sum 41.
To the person who reviewed this using all capitals before, get your facts right before your say stuff about a group of people who supposedly like a band or style of music!
Firstly...I LOVE SUM41! And I....
DON'T SKATE
DON'T HAVE POSER FRIENDS
DON'T THINK I'M COOL
I AM NOT PUNK
I DON'T DRESS PUNK
I DON'T CONSIDER MYSELF A REBEL
I DON'T HATE MY PARENTS
So before you say something that MIGHT be true about other Sum41 fans, make sure you know that people like their music for all different reasons.
I know it's not the punk of the old days, but it's new pop punk style and not everyone is going to like it...BUT I DO! And I don't like their music coz I am trying to be some sort of cool punk or something! I listen to it coz I like the sound of it, that's why I listen to music...coz I LIKE IT! Not coz anyone else does...END OF STORY!!!
I thought they did when I first put "All Killer No Filler" Into my CD player cause their style is straight out of "The Big Bumper Book Of Punk Rock (Volume 41)" this is not to say that Sum 41 are unoriginal, far from it, it means that punk rock: "if it aint broke don't fix it" Sum 41 twist the genre a little bit however as they are a bit more of a rap/punk group, not in the same league as Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park, but just imagine Blink 182 songs with the Beastie Boys rapping over them then you're kind of getting what I mean. On track 4, the highly successful single, "Fat Lip" the vocals are very similar to the Beastie Boys, the fact that Sum 41 are on the Beastie Boy's old record label (Def Jam) may be a connection here but I am yet to discover this as true. The track originally at the end of the "Fat Lip" music video can be found as the last track of "All Killer No Filler" and is called "Pain For Pleasure" Backed up by a very funny video, i think it is a mischeivous and rebellious way of Sum 41 saying repeating the line from "Fat Lip": "Judas and Priest were the gods that we praised!". This is to remind us of how it all began and not to forget the groups who started the game "Back in the day!"
Sum 41 pull out all the stops and give us something that you can really head-bang to (Dude ranch style) and basically something to make you feel young again (if you're old that is.) This is a fresh mix of new, youthful talent and experimental techniques. They may be all killer! but "Killed off" is something you wont see in regard to Sum 41!!!
