Disco de T. Rex: “Bolan at the Beeb”

This is a fabulous collection, but mainly for hardcore Marc Bolan/T Rex fanatics. Disc One is the real gem here, all the pre-fame Tyrannosaurus Rex folk duo material presented in very live sounding recordings. The quality of sound and performance is tremendous, some as good or better than the original album tracks. Steve Took, Bolan's talented partner in crime, is in fine form on the early tracks, lending his unique and expressive vocal and drumming skills to such tracks as Misty Mists and Scenescof. Disc Two suffers from some repetition of songs and both it and Disc Three have the slick "pre-recorded" soundtrack feel to the songs, mainly due to the BBC requiring bands to record a "live" performance prior to the show, then mime along to the recording during the broadcast. Overall, though, the quality of the material here is fantastic, and a "must have" for true Bolan/T Rex nuts!
