How this group never made it big here in the states is beyond me....great songs great voices and they are very handsome...not cute they are not boys anymore......
This album have the best songs of Take that, even the "Pray" song is in two versions, the recording one and another made in a Berlin concert. This is really what I was expecting to buy
This album is amazing and diverse with timeless pop songs. Another huge chart topping album as new fans introduced themselves to the biggest pop band of the 90's in the UK and one in general worldwide outside North America. They have had 11 UK #1's and 19 top 10's overall.
Honestly believe that Take That must be the biggest band from Britain never to have fully made it in America - even more so than Robbie as a solo artist. Had TT been as huge as they were worldwide in the States i believe the US would definately have a different view of pop bands or boybands. Get this album for all the highlights. If Take That release Greatest Hits Vol 2 in the States (when it happens) or the new full line up album with Robbie back in the band i think it would be a slow burner but would do surprisingly well.
19th best selling album of 2005 in the UK, 52nd in 2006, 35th in 2007, 52nd in 2008, 77th in 2009 and 88th in 2010.
Such was the impact of the band when they split in '96 a press conference was held and help lines were soon set up by the British government working with emotional support organisations to help young girls who were distressed by the news and didn't know how to cope.
Take That between 1992 and 1995 won the most trophies in the history of the annual nationally (UK) public voted Smash Hits Poll winners award show both as a band and also individual members. The band also had the most front covers in the history of the magazine (1978 - 2006) the highest selling music magazine aimed at children to young adults in the UK but was also sold in Asia and Australia during these years. Two of the biggest selling issues in the history of the publication were Robbie Williams leaving in 1995 and the band splitting in 1996 which became a dedication issue.
The band won also Best Group in 1994 at the first European Music Awards and again in 1995 for Best Live Act.
In 1994 their album 'Everything Changes' was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize established by the British Phonographic Industry for the best album from the UK or Ireland alongside other nominees including Blur,Pulp,The Prodigy,M People and Paul Weller. Take That are the only boyband to date ever to be nominated.
Gary Barlow the lead singer songwriter of the band won 'Songwriter of the Year' in 1993 at the Ivor Novello awards for songwriting and composing. They are presented annually in London by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA). His award was presented to him by his idol Elton John. The band also won in 1994 with 'Pray' picking up Best Contemporary Song and in 1995 'Back For Good' being awarded Song of the Year.
Take That also went on to win Best British Single in 1993 for 'Could it Be Magic', 1994 for 'Pray' as well as Best Video and in 1996 for 'Back For Good' at The Brits (UK Grammys). In 1996 US Billboard also awarded Back For Good 'International Hit of the Year'.
