April Fool’s Rock Hoaxes: Bieber or Die, Coldplay Perfume and MoreApril 1st is a rough day to be in the news business. Rolling Stone could get a press release that says Dr. Dre’s Detox finally has a release date or Talking Heads are reuniting or the Beatles are coming to iTunes, and we wouldn’t believe it since so many folks use April Fool’s Day to engage in shenanigans with their fans. Last year, Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor pretended he recorded an album with Timbaland and Björk announced she’d joined Led Zeppelin, and in 2010 many artists are keeping the h

New Music Report: Local NativesRolling Stone blogger Daniel Kreps directs your attention to Local Natives’ self-produced debut disc Gorilla Manor — which checked in on the charts at Number 142 this week — in our weekly spotlight of the best new music. The quintet come from Los Angeles’ Silver Lake district, and like their neighbors the Fleet Foxes, Local Natives excel at multi-part harmonies. But while Fleet Foxes gravitate towards more rootsy, Crosby, Stills and Nash-style harmonics, Local Natives draw on the Talking Heads’

David Byrne Hooks Up With Brazilian Girls for “Losing Myself”New York dance trio Brazilian Girls have teamed up with former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne for “Losing Myself,” a new collaboration that hits iTunes today. A version of the song featuring French lyrics originally appeared on the group’s 2008 album New York City. The Brynified rendition features not only English but also the closest thing you’ll ever get to David Byrne actually rapping. “Losing Myself” is Byrne’s third hip-hop/dance-flavored collaboration of 2009, and it’s only March: He hooked up with Breaking duo N.A.S.A. for a pair of tracks, “The People Tree” and “Money,” and teamed with Dizzee Rascal on “Toe Jam,” which featured on Fatboy Slim’s BPA album I Think We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat. Plus, the former Talking Head reportedly has a concept album with Fatboy Slim titled Here Lies Love due out at some point this year. And this all follows Byrne’s acclaimed 2008 collaboration with Brian Eno, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. “Losing Myself” grooves like a funky LCD Soundsystem jam. Listen for yourself right here, and hit us with your reviews in the comments:

David Byrne and Brian Eno Launch New Album WebsiteDetails about David Byrne and producer Brian Eno’s collaboration album have emerged, as the duo launched a new site today. The album, entitled Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, will be released in August strictly through the album’s official website. As Byrne says in a video on the page, Eno wrote the music and Byrne wrote the lyrics. Everything That Happens will be streamed for free in its entirety upon its release, with physical and digital copies available for purchase. If you sign up for updates at the page, you’ll also be sent a free MP3 of one of the songs on August 4th. Additionally, Byrne will go on a tour that prominently features his previous collaborations with Eno, including their three Talking Heads albums together and their 1981 album My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. Dates for that tour will be announced soon. [Photo: Getty]

Rewind: The Week in Rock Daily It was a wild week for one Miss Britney Spears: First a choreographer leaked word that her Video Music Awards performance is a go, then her first new single dropped, she had custody woes and that dress she wiped her chicken-greased fingers on went up for auction. New York City and punk fans lost a hero as CBGB founder Hilly Kristal died after a battle with lung cancer; Patti Smith, Debbie Harry and others remembered him, and Rock Daily ran a photo gallery of the Ramones, Talking Heads and more bands onstage at his legendary club. U2 collaborator Daniel Lanois told us that the band’s next album is progressing well, and that he and producer Brian Eno have been invited to write with the band this time around. Bruce Springsteen announced a fall tour to support his forthcoming album Magic. Bonus: Amazon will debut the video for “Radio Nowhere” on Tuesday, September 4th. We showed off some nice photos of Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fall Out Boy and more big names rocking the U.K.’s Reading and Leeds festivals.

CBGB Founder Hilly Kristal Dies After Battle With Cancer After a lengthy battle with lung cancer, Hilly Kristal, the founder of legendary New York City punk club CBGB, has died at age seventy-five. Kristal, who founded and ran the East Village venue for thirty-three years, bitterly fought with his landlords to save it from closing down, but was forced to pack up his grimy club — the sticker-covered bar, legendarily disgusting bathroom and all — last year after he was finally evicted. Rolling Stone will have much more on Kristal and CBGB throughout the day, including a photo gallery documenting the venue’s rich history, but for now, remember the last days of the club Kristal fought so hard to preserve by reflecting on its last days. Click here to read David Fricke’s interview with Patti Smith and reports on the last few shows to ever take place at the spot that helped launch the careers of the Ramones, Talking Heads, Television, Blondie and more. Check out a photo gallery featuring shots of the Ramones, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, and more CGBG regulars at the club here. [Photo: Gries/Getty]

Wheedle’s Groove, “Jesus Christ Pose” [Soundgarden Cover] This week’s must hear — A scorching R&B cover of Soundgarden’s “Jesus Christ Pose” that gets to the song’s unlikely spiritual center.
