Tenacious D Album: “The Pick Of Destiny (Deluxe Edition) [PA]”
Description :
Tenacious D: Kyle Gass, Jack Black (vocals, acoustic guitar).
Additional personnel: Dave Grohl (vocals, drums); Meat Loaf, Ronnie James Dio (vocals); Liam Lynch (guitar); John Konesky (electric guitar); John Spiker (Clavinet, bass guitar, background vocals); John King (drum programming).
Seven years after their short-lived HBO TV series debuted, the hard-rock comedy duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass (a.k.a. Tenacious D) finally starred in their own feature-length film, 2006's THE PICK OF DESTINY. This brazenly wacky album serves as both the movie's soundtrack and the follow-up to the band's cheeky '01 self-titled debut. As on the earlier outing, Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters/Nirvana) gets behind the drum kit for a number of songs, and rock icons Meatloaf and Ronnie James Dio also make guest appearances. The D's ridiculous, heavy-metal-loving sense of humor is on full display during the driving title track, while "Master Exploder" focuses on Black's considerable singing prowess. For fans of Jables and Kage, this is a welcome blessing from the gods of rock.

- "jables" and "Rage kage" rock ur lame a**!!!

Just picked this de-lux/limited edition copy of "the pick of Destiny" soundtrack. Man this thing rocks your f'n socks off right from the first note!! I've waited a loooooooong while but now it's finally here! The songs are rocking just like you would expect from "the D" my fav's are : "classico","baby","master exploder","Dude(I totaly miss you)" and "P.O.D". If you pick up this limited edition cd you get some tarot cards that feature JB and KG on them, the soundtrack cd,and your own personal PICK OF DESTINY!!!!! How f'n cool is that! And to top it off it comes in a awesome looking embossed book to display, all your "D" loving friends will love it.The only down side that I see: not enough songs, just like my felow reviewer said, but the songs that are here are awesome! i can't wait 4 the movie !!!!Get it b4 it ends up costing you double or triple because you didn't act fast...believe me it's worth every penny, much better than just the soundtrack.

- Reviewing the unreviewable

How do you review an album that's not meant to be taken seriously on almost any level that is the soundtrack of a movie that was a comedy full of in jokes about hard rock and metal? Answer? With great difficulty. So here is a brief run down of what you get;

Jack Black and Kyle Gass basically spend a lot of time twanging acoustic guitars in a plentiful supply of acoustic tracks with vocals delivered by Black in a nicely produced work where it's actually important to hear the lyrics. The album basically follows the course of the film and a number of the tunes like ....well like a bunch of them don't really make a lot of sense taken out of that context. So you really need to see the film dudes. But other parts of the disc do work even if you've yet to catch a look at the film, like the lead track and track #13 Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown). The whole thing works better if your into hard rock and metal and essentially if you liked School of Rock or the film picking this up on the cheap is a good move and it will be a mood lifter when you want to listen to something that won't melt the pet beagle.

That's about it, all that remains is to point out the long and distinguished list of guest musicians like Meatloaf, Ronnie James Dio and Dave Grohl and it's quite clear that all the people on the album have some talent and it's kinda funny that they were all happy to get into this project.

Cheery listening but just be warned that a lot of the tracks will probably be guilty pleasures of comedic worth to you but your not going to put a lot of the numbers here onto your self burned greatest hits disc to play in your car.

- Tenacious D The Pick of Destiny box set

If you love Tenacious D get this, if you love Jack Black and Kyle Gas get this, if you loved the movie, guess what...get this. This set has a cd with very funny songs on it, a mini poster which is great, 9 tarrot cards and the pick of destiny itself. I strongly recommended this for anyone who is a fan. I sure love it!!!

- There to rock!

Those guys are so awesome.

The Soundtrack was for some reason here in Germany only for a few days available and will be ready to buy again as the movie starts here in Feb. 2007. So I've buyed it here in the US.

A (short) good album where rock is celebrated by two men which know ho to rock!

For any rock-fan the perfect album!!

- Only one significant flaw

If you loved the movie, you already know you'll love the soundtrack. If you're a fan of comedy music and you haven't been introduced to Tenacious D, maybe their previous album is a better place to start- though this one has several superior tracks it may depend a little on already knowing about Jable's and Kyle's lyrical exploits. The only bad thing I can saw about this album critically is that it's way too short, being barely over 30 minutes.
