Britney Spears VMA Rumors Get Louder, Farm Aid Announces Allman/Nelson/Matthews Set, Details on Pearl Jam Tour DVD Emerge Rumors that Britney Spears will mount a major comeback appearance at September 9th’s MTV Video Music Awards are getting louder. Reps for the TV network now claim they “cannot confirm or deny” a Spears cameo. Six recordings from the Monterey Jazz Festival will be re-released on August 21st to commemorate the event’s fiftieth anniversary, with more releases to follow next year. The first batch includes Louis Armstrong’s 1958 opening-night performance and a “Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival” compilation. The Osmond Brothers, plus siblings Donny (a onetime Rolling Stone heartthrob), Marie and Jimmy taped a fiftieth-reunion special for PBS to be aired next year; it’s the first time the full family has gathered to sing in at least twenty years. LISTEN UP: It’s Marchy March And The Funky Month At BWE.tv!Your BWE.tv editors each have many private loves. Michelle adores trannies on Soap Operas, Dan is smitten with humorous Top 10 Lists, and I have an aching, soul-consuming devotion to The LaBeouf. But one thing we all love is music, so to make up for taking away Listen Up as a daily feature, we've decided to dedicate the next four weeks to the sounds of music and deem it Marchy March and the Funky Month. So stay tuned for special posts featuring our favorite bands, songs, music blogs and live music coverage! And to get us started off, the five bands I'm listening to right now, after the jump: I have a suspicion that Lightspeed Champion has a solid chance of winning this year's Tapes 'n Tapes Buzziest Band at SXSW Award, and for pretty good reason. (The Yellow Stereo) I first heard The Avett Brothers' excellent single "If It's The Beaches" a few weeks ago on Friday Night Lights when Landry and Tyra finally got back together, and I've been listening to it - curled up in bed and crying into my heart pillow - ever since. (I Am Fuel, You Are Friends) It's ridiculous that Jonny Greenwood's score for There Will Be Blood wasn't eligible to win an Oscar, because it was by far the most memorable of the year. I like to listen to it while bowling, because I have a competition in me. (You Are So Relevant) If you're into the softer folky stuff, Peasant sounds sort of like a less f*cked up version of Elliot Smith. (BrooklynVegan) After years of actively resisting the M.I.A. bandwagon, I have finally given up and admitted to my love of "Paper Planes". (Instrumental Analysis)
