Dennis Wilson’s “Pacific Ocean Blue” Finally Reissued After Fifteen Year Disappearance After being out of print for nearly fifteen years, the Beach Boys‘ Dennis Wilson’s lone solo album Pacific Ocean Blue will finally be re-released and reissued as a two-disc set. The set will celebrate the album’s thirtieth anniversary (even though it came out in 1977) as the copyright disputes that made it unavailable for more than a decade have been resolved by means of a Caribou/Epic/Legacy co-release. The scarcity of the record has made it both a cult-favorite and a high-priced collector’s item over the years. In addition to Pacific Ocean Blue, which feature the Beach Boys’ Mike Love and brother Carl Wilson on a few tracks, the set will also include previously unreleased bonus songs “which are still being sorted through by label archivists.” The album captures Wilson on the precipice of his drugs-and-alcohol-fueled decline, which eventually led to Wilson’s drowning death in 1983. Following Pacific, Wilson promised to release a superior sophomore album called Bamboo. While the album was never completed due to financial woes and Beach Boys obligation, for the first time ever legally (thanks, bootleggers), songs from Bamboo will make their way onto the second disc of the set. While the exact second-disc contents are unknown, they will hopefully contain some of the sessions Dennis and his brother Brian Wilson collaborated on in 1980-81. The set, barring any last minute copyright issues, will hit stores on May 13th as either a two-disc set or a standalone vinyl. Ghostface, Rakim, Brother Ali: All the Way LiveIt's an hour before the Hip Hop Live tour kicks off, and Ghostface Killah is making no move towards acknowledging that he's due on stage soon. Seated in a dim room upstairs at the Hollywood House of Blues, Ghost responds to a query about the exemplary crimson-and-green custom wallabees he's rocking to match his leather jacket: "No one has more style than me! Kanye? No. Slick Rick is the only one, I give it up for Slick Rick."

Single Minded: G-Unit, Freeky Zekey, Rev Theory and Lupe Fiasco Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more. 50 Cent featuring Prodigy & Tony Yayo, “Fully Loaded” [Official Mixtape] The album-long takedown of Fat Joe is a little juvenile even by G-Unit standards, but this slow-burning death march about (what else?) drug slinging reminds everybody why we liked 50 in the first place (for reasons that had nothing to do with his abs). Midnight Movies, “Nights in White Satin” [MySpace] Southern California dream poppers take the Moody Blues’ overblown classic and turn it into a sexy, dramatic statement of purpose. Freeky Zekey, “Big Brother” [Bootleg] Isn’t it amazing how a good (jacked) Kanye West beat can turn a sixth-string Dipset mumbler into a guy who sounds like he knows what he’s doing? Rev Theory, “Light It Up” [MySpace] This hard-hitting track about “whiskey running through my veins” (ouch!) sounds like the entrance music to the meanest pro wrestler in history. Not coincidentally, it’s also the official theme song of this year’s Wrestlemania. Synergy! Lupe Fiasco featuring T.I. and Young Jeezy, “Superstar” [Remix] Lupe has never been a rapper who has played well with others, but his team up with these two titans of the South is an impressive twist on his tepid single from The Cool. Jeezy sounds especially sharp — at times, it sounds like he’s gargling with the beat, which should give him minty fresh breath.

Single Minded: Cat Power, Natasha Bedingfield, Black Mountain, Drive-By Truckers and More Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more. Cat Power, Jukebox [Full Album Stream] Chan Marshall’s latest batch of covers re-invents rock standards with members of the Delta 72, the Dirty Three and the Blues Explosion backing her. It’s like if the Raygun masthead got to curate a Big Brother house. Natasha Bedingfield, Pocketful of Sunshine [Full Album Stream] The first single from Brit singer’s second features a guest appearance by Sean Kingston, which officially lengthens Kingston’s career lifespan by a full three minutes. Black Mountain, “Tyrants” [Label Website] Blistering track from Canadian quintet’s new stoner masterpiece comes out swinging, then promptly collapses into a bleary, druggy heap. Which, coincidentally, also describes most of S-M’s weeknights. Jack Peņate, “Second, Minute or Hour” [MySpace] Wiseacre Brit singer (and recent Breaking Artist) does a better job of summoning the Jam than recent-vintage Paul Weller. Drive-By Truckers, “Self Destruction Zones” [MySpace] Grizzly Georgia act continues to mine the surprisingly fertile middle ground between country and power-pop—not unlike early Wilco. So in other words, as long as no one lets them near those Neu! records, we should be okay.

Janet Jackson and Aimee Mann Plot New Albums, NIN Remix Site Launches, Black Crowes Return While her brothers go gallivanting on a planned family reunion tour, Janet Jackson will release her new, still-untitled album in February. The record will be Jackson’s debut on Island Def Jam, and her first since 2006’s 20 Y.O. Janet is also prepping a world tour to coincide with the album, which is being executive produced by Antonio “L.A.” Reid rather than her boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri. Aimee Mann will unleash her new album, called Smilers, next spring on her own Superego label. Mann tells Billboard the new album “almost sounds like the Cars a little bit” and features “no electric guitars at all,” opting for a more Moog sound. The Nine Inch Nails remix site has finally launched, despite being in the middle of an ongoing war between the record labels and the YouTubes of the world. Just last week, Trent Reznor’s old record label refused to host the site because of sampling concerns. To mark the fifth anniversary of the death of the Clash’s Joe Strummer, London’s Brixton JAMM will host “London Calling – Remembering Joe Strummer” on December 22nd. Mani from Primal Scream, Andy Rourke of the Smiths and Jamie T are scheduled to perform. The Black Crowes will release their first album of all-new material in seven years when their Warpaint hits shelves March 4th, 2008. According to the press release, “the album builds compellingly on the band’s trademark adventurous brew of rock, blues, country, soul and gospel.” We’ll take their word on it. [Photo: Getty]

The Allman Brothers: Live At The BeaconThe Allman Brothers Band opened their April 7th show at New York’s Beacon Theater — the fourteenth and next-to-last night of the 2007 edition of their annual spring residency here — with a brilliant surprise: Dr. John’s acid-voodoo crawl “I Walk on Gilded Splinters.” Behind the organ, Gregg Allman growled like a man who has spent much of his life defying death and evil — which he has. In the breakdown after the chorus, guitarist Derek Trucks emulated the zombie-angel chorale on Dr. John’s original recording with swandive-bottleneck runs while Warren Haynes, also playing slide guitar, peeled off licks that sounded like the helpless cries of the undead. It was a startling blast-off to a night that, in this town, at this time of year, is so easy to take for granted. The Allman Brothers Band have made themselves at home at the Beacon for three weeks each spring since 1989. It is a hallowed local tradition, and the closest thing anywhere, certainly in this century, to the aura and lift-off that the Allmans trademarked in their legendary 1971 appearances at Bill Graham’s Fillmore East. Indeed, for the first dozen of those Beacon runs, it was enough to have the historic might of Live at Fillmore East resurrected in Allman’s voice, the drum circle of Butch Trucks, Jaimoe and Marc Quinones, the bass-guitar authority of the late Allen Woody and (since 1997) Oteil Burbridge and the serpentine double-guitar ballet of (depending on the year) Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes, Jack Pearson, Jimmy Herring and Derek Trucks. But the Allmans were, from the start, an improvising band, dedicated to the magic and lessons of change, and April 7th was a night of dynamic hairpin turns. The second-set overture “Don’t Want You No More” — the Spencer Davis Group cover that opened 1969’s The Allman Brothers Band — was followed not by its usual sister song, the blues “It’s Not My Cross to Bear&
