Lugar: Her Majesty's Theatre HER MAJESTY'S THEATRE, 58 Grote Street, Adelaide. The Cinematic Orchestra. Debut Australian Tour United Kingdom Orchestral, jazz, soul, electronic sampled beats and experimental moods Created by composer and multiinstrumentalist Jason Swinscoe in 1999, this British-based outfit spin through musical genres to create very identifiable aural narratives. Their live performances evoke heart warming emotional shifts that navigate through orchestral, jazz, soul, electronic sampled beats and experimental moods with a turntablist and electronic element. The Cinematic Orchestra's debut album Motion (Ninja Tune) in 1999 took everyone by surprise, with listeners of Gilles Peterson's Radio One show in the UK voting it album of the year. The critical success of this and future albums has led to performances across the world including Royal Albert Hall, and at the Director's Guild Awards ceremony for the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award for film director Stanley Kubrick. Conceived as the soundtrack to an imaginary film, their latest release Ma Fleur (2007) features the song To Build A Home, prominently used on the medical drama ,i>Grey's Anatomy and more recently, in the award winning Cadbury 'Schweppervescense' commercial. If you enjoyed Pink Martini, presented by trans:mission in January 2008, you'll love the Cinematic Orchestra. "A vision of panoramic jazz-infused cinema for the ears." The Cinematic Orchestra (Sydney Festival 2009)
Lugar: City Recital Hall Angel Place One of the most innovative bands in the UK, The Cinematic Orchestra (TCO) remix live source material into a seamless fusion of electronic sampling, turntablism, live instrumental and improvised jazz. Their spellbinding music originates from the sonic interests of J Swincoe, whose roots lie with South London indie label Ninja Tune. With bassist Phil France and a host of the UK’s top improv jazz players as collaborators, TCO mix jazz bass, raw rhythm sections, refined electronica and gorgeous vocals to create their unique sound. The sense of space and attention to detail within their music underlines the lush cinematic element from which they found their name. In the past few years TCO have headlined festivals across Europe, toured the US in the back of a transit van and performed at the presentation of a lifetime Achievement Award for Stanley Kubrick by the Directors' Guild.
