- One of the best box sets out there
5 stars for a box set? Yeah: this box set covers all the bases and, with the exception of London Calling, virtually makes the individual albums obsolete. The highlights of the band's studio albums are presented here (including around 90% of The Clash's awesome debut album), so you get all the good stuff. Sandinista! in particular sounds much better when the very best cuts are lined up back-to-back; skipping isn't necessary here. The box set also includes singles and B-sides, making it a valuable set even for collectors. And if that's not enough, this long box includes a cool book stuffed full of photos and quotes. Unless you are a die-hard fan of the band this box set, along with London Calling, are the only two purchases you need to make. And if you own all the albums, get this box set anyway. The outtakes and singles are worth it.

- Improved sound; cheaper packaging
The remastered sound is better than the original version i got back in 1991. The price was also much cheaper than in 1991 (25.00 vs. 65.00), when box sets were a big deal. The repackaging is smaller and the booklet, which was apparently stapled inside the 'box', fell out (which it would have done sooner or later- only it happened sooner, or rather, immediately). Oh well, they don't make 'em like they used to. And it isn't worth worrying about. The sound is excellent. It's well worth 25 bucks. I'm glad i still have the original. This version omits the lyric booklet. I think i'll put the new discs into the old package and jewel cases. That was something to own; this is something to listen to. AND IT'S GREAT!

- always: the only band that matters
most people know the clash from such songs like 'rock the casbah', 'should i stay or should i go', 'train in vain'...etc. this is a MUST HAVE COLLECTION for fans of the clash. even if you only like their more popular songs! there is no way you will be disappointed. it has all their "hits" and some of the less heard-but superb-songs like 'straight to hell', 'guns of brixton', and so so so much more. i adore the clash and this box set is so terrific. you can just put in all 3 discs and enjoy each and every song, from the london calling days to combat rock! A++.two thumbs up.

- THIS SET ROCKS! BUY THE REMASTER!
Forget the Essential Clash set - for about the same price buy this 3 disc set used on Amazon - The remastering is glorious, and The Clash never sounded better. IT'S NOT A LIVE ALBUM! which is probably a good thing - originally released as a celebration of the Clash's legendary week in NY this is the greatest hits ++ set you've always wanted. I agee that you probably want the entire London Calling CD (the Sgt Pepper of punk) but this set ROCKS!

- The Best of One of the Best Bands Ever!
Since the release of their debut album in 1977, The Clash has become one of the most important and influential bands in rock history. They are the greatest punk band of all time. They may not have been the most punk. There is a big difference between being the most punk and the greatest punk band (I just wanted to point that out), and The Clash is the greatest punk band. No band from 1977-1983, with the possible exception of The Ramones, has had such an impact on rock music as The Clash. Here's the part where I justify this claim: The Police and U2 (many people would consider these two bands as the greatest of 1977-1983) are a couple of the greatest bands ever; we all know that. They were more commercially successful, but how many people decided to start a band after hearing either of those guys. How many successful bands had a direct influence from either the Police or U2, or tried to create a sound much like theirs. The numbers don't even compare to The Clash. The Clash did so much for music and were one of the most important and popular bands of one of the most important movements in rock.
The point of the above paragraph is to give a good idea of the impact and importance of The Clash. Not only that, they were talented musicians, probably the most talented of all the famous bands of the original Punk movement. Their music, combined with the political edge they gave, is shown throughout the entire "Clash On Broadway". This box set shows better than all other greatest hits cds, that The Clash deserve the spot in rock history. In the "Clash On Broadway", there is the snarling early punk they started out playing, to the more artistic and masterful works they created later on in their incredible career. All the greatest songs from all the albums are here, including the great Eps. Just about every song from the debut album is here, and so is most of "London Calling". Eleven out of the nineteen songs are on this set, but it's enough to give anyone the idea of what the album is like and about. "Clash On Broadway" gives an incredibly detailed look at all the different musical styles The Clash played: from straight-up punk rock (just about all of CD 1), to the more experimental and studio demanding songs that are on "London Calling", "Sandinsta", and "Combat Rock".
The other great thing about this set is that along with the three Cds, there are two big booklets. One is of all the lyrics, and the other has all kinds of great information, including quotes from the band members and others about each song. I would highly recommend "Clash On Broadway". Even for people who don't like punk, this is just great music, and I think anybody could really enjoy and appreciate this.
Stand Out Songs: The list is just too long
