Furthur Hit Manhattan: On the Bus With the Hippie ArmyFor the past two nights, a large, partially-washed army has descended on New York’s Radio City Music Hall (directly across the street from the Rolling Stone offices) for a pair of Furthur shows. Our intrepid videographer Matthew Murphy questioned the masses about their life following the Dead and love of LSD, and boarded an awesome school bus for a Cribs-style tour (guess where they keep the bathroom?). He also met the vehicle’s awesome driver Randy, a 40-year road vet who gets misty recalling h

Comment of the Week: Our Readers Siamese Dream About Smashing Pumpkins On “Behind the Music”Photo: Kravitz/FilmMagic When VH1 revealed that Behind the Music was returning with episodes dedicated to Lil Wayne and Scott Weiland, we asked our readers what musicians they thought should get the BTM treatment. Jane’s Addiction, Ryan Adams, Radiohead, the Misfits and Jeff Buckley were all popular suggestions, but it was our old friend Anonymous who not only broke down every BTM narrative ever, but also recommended the best episode: “Behind the music has a formula: band starts from nothing and struggles. band hits it big. all the money brings drugs and women. band hits it BIGGER. drugs destroy members of the band, someone dies, someone leaves the band. Band continues on a rocky road. Band breaks up. Band reforms, with members missing and look toward the future, sober and ready to rock. sounds like… smashing pumpkins. smashing pumpkins. smashing pumpkins…” An episode dedicated to Billy Corgan and the many iterations of Smashing Pumpkins would definitely be Must-See TV. But we really want to catch Billy Corgan on MTV Cribs, just so we can finally see that closet full of “Zero” shirts he probably houses.

Mariah Carey Plots Tour, Dispels Rocky Marriage RumorsEven though the album came out in April, Mariah Carey is finally plotting out a tour in support of her E=MC2. “We’re looking at November right now,” Carey told MTV. “Please don’t hold me accountable if it turns out to be December 5 or December 7 or January 18!” Before she hits the road, Carey will perform at both the Teen Choice Awards on August 4th and Fashion Rocks at NY’s Radio City Music Hall on September 5th. Much like her last tour — when Carey changed her wardrobe nine times over the course of one concert (kinda like her episode of MTV’s Cribs) — Mimi promises the shows will be “elaborate.” As for the rumored troubles between her and husband Nick Cannon following their self-promotional shotgun wedding, Carey says the couple are “good.” “Life is beautiful, and things are going well,” Carey said before asking fans to just be happy for her and stop rumor-mongering. The Cribs and Johnny Marr on the Smith’s New Role, Bad ’90s MusicFor three albums, the Cribs — twin brothers Gary and Ryan Jarman and their younger bro Ross — kept things familial on their way to becoming a buzz band in their native England. But for their fourth album Ignore the Ignorant, the U.K. indie trio welcomed a big non-Jarman name as a formal member, recruiting the Smiths — and more recently, Modest Mouse — guitarist Johnny Marr. In this exclusive Rolling Stone interview, Gary Jarman and Marr discuss the genesis of this new union (”We just got togethe

SXSW Day Three Wrap-Up: N.E.R.D., The Black Keys, Dizzee Rascal, Does It Offend You, Yeah? Follow all of Rolling Stone’s ongoing SXSW coverage — photos, video, interviews and live reports — here. It was a surprisingly scorching afternoon in Austin on Friday, but the weather didn’t explain the high number of scantily clad women packed into Stubb’s well after the sun went down to check out N.E.R.D.’s show. Pharrell Williams and Co. took over the outdoor venue with a set that featured a handful of songs from their forthcoming Seeing Sounds and all of the band’s past singles (save “Provider”). The two drum kits — tandem drum solos! — added a large dose of power, and Williams just could not stop darting around the stage. The atmosphere was like an aggressive rock show, complete with guitar solos and Williams calling for mosh pits. The pits may not have materialized, but muthafuckin’ noise was made, hands were waved in the air, and caring, in that respect, was at a minimum. New track “Everyone Nose” manages to make “All the girls standing in the line for the bathroom” a viable chorus, and closer “She Wants to Move” was a strong reminder that “Her ass is a spaceship I want to ride” remains a fantastic lyric. A few hours earlier at the same venue, the Cribs showed signs of shaking off the Strokes comparisons, adding a ferocious attack to older tunes like “Mirror Kissers” and newer ones like “Mens Needs, Womens Needs,” during a short set that was both lean and loose. The Kings of Leon’s Nathan Folowill came to check out MGMT’s extremely well-attended gig, but while the Brooklyn band were stretching out their psych-pop tunes in jammier directions he was raving about the Panics, an Aussie act he’d seen the day prior. “You know how normally when you hear a band you can list the bands that influenced them or that they ripped off straight away?” he asked. “We couldn’t do it for them,
