- Drifters All Time Greatest Hits

We went to Myrtle Beach to hear the Drifters in concert this year and it prompted me to buy a CD of their greatest hits. This CD hits the spot. It contains their best music. Brings back good memories. Highly recommended.

- +1/2 star: Some Kind of Wonderful

The Drifters sing and harmonize so well that their music is still special even in our times. Although the members of The Drifters have changed from time to time, the music remains nothing short of excellent! The sound on this CD is excellent, too.

"Under the Boardwalk" was a huge hit for The Drifters; they perform this with panache and I'm impressed--this music is all THAT good! The melody is pleasant and just right for the vocals. "This Magic Moment" is beautiful and also very easy going; The Drifters deliver this faultlessly and that's grand. The strings are used to great advantage and it all holds its own very well.

"Some Kind of Wonderful" is very well done; this has their signature sound and that '50s flavor always appeals to me--this is music at its best. "Adorable" charms me with its natural beauty; and listen for yet another gem when The Drifters perform "Up on the Roof." I love "Up on the Roof" and I think you will enjoy this track, too.

"There Goes My Baby" showcases The Drifters' natural genius; and I really like "Honey Love" with that percussion as they sing this to perfection--and beyond! "Such a Night" is one of my favorite tracks on this album; The Drifters really do this one up right! "Money Honey" is another bright jewel that The Drifters ace as effortlessly as if it were mere breathing even though we know it really wasn't all that easy. Their talents carry them through every time. The album ends with this wonderful group performing the very classic "Save the last Dance for Me."

My only disappointment with this CD is that it is relatively brief; and therefore diehard fans will want to keep looking for more comprehensive albums, two-fer CDs and box sets by The Drifters including their work with other artists like Clyde McPhatter and Ben E. King who was even a member of the group for a while.

The Drifters were incredible then; and obviously they continue to be very special today. Catch them in concert if you can! Kudos to The Drifters!
