Ke$ha on Ke$ha: Pop’s Party Animal Asks Herself the Tough QuestionsWhen Rolling Stone last interviewed Ke$ha — whose “TiK ToK” has been on a glittery, record-breaking run on the Singles chart — the 22-year-old pop star admitted she’s not afraid to look like an asshole, she admires the Flaming Lips and Arcade Fire, and her dream collaboration is a slumber party with Beck and Prince. When she stopped by the RS offices last week, we wanted to ask her the hard questions — like did she actually deface the Hollywood sign and does she really think she’s like Bob Dylan

Rewind: The Week in Rock Daily This week, we gave Toronto prog gods Rush some long overdue love, first with an interview with the band, then with Rush’s complete album-by-album guide, and closed it all out by dedicating a Rock List in their honor. Now get off our backs, Rush fans. We geared up for the Who’s VH1 Rock Honors by talking to Roger Daltrey, who told us what Pearl Jam and the Flaming Lips had in store for the show tomorrow night. Daltrey also talked retirement, but that’s not stopping the band from going on tour this fall. Also, the Lips’ Wayne Coyne weighed in on the Who’s impact. Metallica spilled the beans on the many purchasing options for Death Magnetic come September. Not down with the digital option, the physical CD option or the limited edition version? Maybe a coffin box is right for you. Live Nation continued their march toward music industry domination by adding one of the most successful bands of the last couple years, Nickelback. The band still owes another two albums to their previous label, so let’s hope — for Live Nation’s sake — that the rest of America doesn’t realize all their songs sound the same by then.

The Who Plot U.S. Fall Tour, Ready for Rock Honors Despite Roger Daltrey’s longing to hang it up, the Who have announced the beginnings of a U.S. tour in the fall. So far, only a pair of dates have been announced: a two-night run at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre on November 8 and 9. Fan club tickets and VIP packages for those dates go on sale July 14th at the band’s official website. The band also promises more dates will be announced soon. The Who will also take the stage this Saturday night at UCLA’s Pauley Arena for a VH1 Rock Honors special, to air July 17th. Pearl Jam, Flaming Lips, Incubus and Tenacious D will also participate in the event, with each band paying tribute to the Who before Daltrey and Townshend take the stage. Rock Daily will be at this weekend’s event, so check back next week for the full report.

News Ticker: Flaming Lips, Patty Smyth, Santogold and Motorhead The Flaming Lips have taken to MySpace to help a batch of puppies find a home. The Lips are calling on the Oklahoma City community to adopt a friend’s stray dog’s pups. Patty Smyth and Scandal, best known for the 80s hit “Goodbye to You,” are reuniting to record new music for the first time since 1984. Check out the video for “My Drive Thru,” the Converse-sponsored collaboration between Santogold, the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas and Pharrell. Motorhead’s Lemmy is under investigation for reportedly wearing a Nazi cap before a concert in Aurich, Germany. Donning Nazi paraphernalia is a crime in Germany. [Photo: Getty]

News Ticker: The Grateful Dead, Flaming Lips and Zach de la Rocha Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead said the band stands “at the ready to be of service” for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. The surviving members of the Dead last performed together at an Obama fundraiser in San Francisco in February. The Flaming Lips will contribute a new song, “Cosmic Trigger 2,” to the soundtrack to the fishing documentary Okie Noodling II. The song is a nod to the track the Lips recorded for the original 2001 film. Rage Against the Machine’s Zach de la Rocha will release an EP with his side project One Day As a Lion on July 22nd. The band also features ex-Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore.

Festival Roundup: Bumbershoot, Virgin Calgary Announces Lineups Another pair of summer festivals unveiled their lineups yesterday, and strangely neither included Jack Johnson. At Seattle’s three-day Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival, to be held August 30-September 1, the headliners are Beck, the reunited Stone Temple Pilots, Lucinda Williams and Neko Case. Also on the bill are Jakob Dylan, Lee “Scratch” Perry, the Walkmen, Ingrid Michaelson and more. Tickets are on sale now for that event. A few hundred miles northeast in Calgary, the city’s version of the Virgin Festival will feature headliners STP and the Tragically Hip, with the Flaming Lips, the New Pornographers and a parade of Canadian bands round out the bill. Tickets for that fest, which will be held June 21 and 22, go on sale Saturday. It was previously announced that the Baltimore Virgin would get the Foo Fighters, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails and STP, while Toronto’s headliners were Oasis and Spiritualized.
