Rewind: The Week in Rock DailyRolling Stone was all over VH1’s Rock Honors, where Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, the Flaming Lips, Tenacious D and Incubus pay tribute to the Who. We also talked to Eddie Vedder about the Who’s impact and rocked the red carpet. Guitar Hero and Rock Band slugged it out for your attention. After Rock Band 2 fired the first salvo by grabbing a new Guns n’ Roses song and a massive track list, Guitar Hero responded with Death Magnetic and Jimi Hendrix. Oh, and Wii wants to get involved. We caught a pair of baseball-related shows: Billy Joel and friends said goodbye to Shea Stadium and Bon Jovi celebrated All-Star Week in NYC with a Central Park performance. And we assume a bunch of Seattle Mariners fans went to the Sub Pop 20th Anniversary. Both Eminem and Britney Spears are back in the studio, working on their new albums. Only one of the two gave up custody of their kids, though. [Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage]

Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell Preview Projekt Revolution Linkin Park’s annual Projekt Revolution Tour kicks off tonight outside of Boston, so Rock Daily sat down with LP’s Chester Bennington and co-headliner Chris Cornell to talk about this summer’s jaunt. “What I like about doing a touring festival, especially Projekt Rev, is the fact these are bands that I can get really excited about since I’m part of the reason they’re there. For me to be able to bring out Mindless Self Indulgence — a band that I’ve always liked and I’ve felt that they’ve never really gotten the love that they deserve — to see them show up and play with another band like Saosin and 5,000 kids are showing up at noon, just like, ‘Yes, it’s happening.’” Click below for more on Projekt Revolution (which also features the Bravery, Busta Rhymes, Ashes Divide, Hawthorne Heights and Atreyu) and check back in tomorrow for Rock Daily’s full report on opening night. • Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell Preview Projekt Revolution [Photo: Getty]

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich: “We’ve Always Been Fiercely Independent and Controlling” Rolling Stone caught up with Metallica at their Record Store Day signing event in northern California late last week and watched as a frenzied mass of fans kept the band busy for more than six hours. Drummer Lars Ulrich dialed us up to discuss the event and chatted about recording with Rick Rubin, bonding with his kids over Guitar Hero and learning to love the Web. “Metal is fucking alive and well and doing better than it has in many years,” he says of the state of the genre, discussing a new-millennium metal surge. Check out the whole Q&A here. [Photo: Rigby/Retna]

News Ticker: Metallica, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Motley Crue Metallica is rumored to be one of the headliners for this year’s Ozzfest. Unlike in previous years, this version of Ozzfest is rumored to be two different two-day events in late July/early August. Mariah Carey has hinted that she may release a workout video. “I might be doing a workout video, which will be a big joke anyway,” says the “Touch My Body” singer. “But I can show how I did it. I still have curves, though.” Unfulfilled merely with a cartoon, Snoop Dogg will invade children’s bookshelves with a series of books titled Where’s the Cheese? The books are aimed at kids who face challenges in urban areas. Listen to Mötley Crüe’s “Saints of Los Angeles,” the debut single from the band’s first album with their original lineup since 1997.
