Det hör inte till vanligheten att en skiva blir utnämnd till veckans/månadens album av NME, Uncut, MOJO och Q samtidigt. Det krävs en del för det. Det krävs The Hold Steadys “Stay Positive” som släpptes på Rough Trade nu i juli. The Hold Steady bildades i Brooklyn 2003, inspirerade av The Bands konsertfilm “The Last Waltz“, och har envetet och medvetet kört på med sin rockkavalkad utan att vända kappan efter vinden. Vilket uppenbarligen gett resultat.
Det stora genombrottet kom med tredje skivan ”Boys and Girls in America” från 2006 som hyllades unisont runt om i världen. Frontmannen Craig Finn gräver bland vinylbackarnas gamla rockplattor och uppdaterar det hela till 2000-talet med lite Petty, lite Springsteen och lite sköna riff. Gubbrock så det förslår, men samtidigt så helt rätt.
Låtarna är bitterljuva berättelser om livet i Brooklyn, ackompanjerade av driven rock med hög allsångskaraktär vilket tydligt märks på bandets livespelningar. Det är gasen i botten hela vägen, så spänn fast dig och följ med på en åktur som du sent kommer glömma.
I oktober kommer kvintetten till Stockholm och Göteborg, välkommen på allsång!
