New Reviews: Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Never Shout Never and FreewayPhoto: Strauss/WireImage This week in New Reviews, we look at the latest acoustic live album from Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. Live in Las Vegas, the duo’s third concert album together. “The playing is impressive, and there are plenty of tender moments you won’t see at full Matthews Band gigs. The best are simple, bluesy mourners like ‘Grace Is Gone,” Mark Kemp writes in his three-star Rolling Stone review. “Having said that, these records are only of lasting interest to hardcore DMB heads —

The Killers Eye November Release for Third AlbumThe Killers have reportedly been holed in their Las Vegas studio, working hard to ensure their third album is released by November, sources close to the band’s label Island Records tell MTV.com. For their third, still-untitled album (the follow-up to 2006’s Sam’s Town), the band is working with producer Stuart Price, who previously remixed the group’s “Mr. Brightside” and played a large part in crafting Madonna’s Confessions on a Dance Floor. While exact song titles have been kept under wraps, frontman Brandon Flowers hinted at one Aladdin Sane-esque track entitled “Tidal Wave.” [Photo: Getty]

The Killers Inside: Rolling in Vegas With Brandon FlowersPhotograph by Max Vadukul Brandon Flowers is having trouble explaining himself. Maybe it’s because nothing about him adds up: a couture-wearing synth-pop fanatic who wants to be Bruce Springsteen; a devout Mormon who sings in a decadent Las Vegas rock band. Maybe it’s because when Flowers talks, he tends to get in trouble — like when he bragged that Sam’s Town, the previous album from his band, the Killers, was “one of the best albums in the last 20 years” before anyone heard it. Or maybe it’s because, as the Killers prepare to release their third album, Day & Age, he’s still not sure what kind of band they are. “Every day, I change,” says Flowers. “One day I want to be dead serious, and the next I just want to write great pop songs and have fun. I don’t have any kind of clear direction. I don’t know if I’d want to.” He sighs. “I don’t even know why people want to talk to me.” Read the rest of Brian Hiatt’s feature from the current issue of Rolling Stone here: • The Killers Inside: Rolling in Vegas With Brandon Flowers, the Biggest, Most Insecure Mormon Rock Star Ever

New Eagles Song Hits MySpace; Watch Jack White as Elvis Presley; Nine Inch Nails to Release Remix Album The Eagles are back in flight. It’s been 28 years since their last studio album, but now “How Long,” the first single from the band’s October-released, Wal-Mart-only album Long Road Out Of Eden, is streaming on MySpace. Click here to listen to the song. From the Hollywood comedy mafia that brought you Knocked Up and Superbad comes the trailer for the musical biopic spoof Walk Hard, starring John C. Reilly as a Johnny Cash/Brian Wilson hybrid, White Stripes’ Jack White as kung-fu Elvis, and Jewel in some capacity. Nine Inch Nails will release a Year Zero remix album, cleverly leet-titled Y34R Z3R0 R3M1X3D. The strange visa issues that Lily Allen somehow circumvented to attend the MTV Video Music Awards nomination show in Las Vegas will also force her to miss her appearance at the actual award show on September 9th. The Beastie Boys are following up their first ever concert in Brooklyn by adding shows in Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, and Montreal. Check out the dates after the jump. 9/20 Montreal, Quebec - Bell Centre 9/21 Toronto, Ontario - Air Canada Centre 9/22 Toronto, Ontario - Hummingbird Centre for Performing Arts (Instrumental show) 9/24 Detroit, MI - Fillmore 9/26 Chicago IL - Riviera Theatre (Instrumental show) 9/27 Chicago IL - Charter One Pavilion

Evanescence Running Out Of Musicians, Brandon Flowers Faces Fatherhood, And More Who IS in Evanescence anymore? According to reports, the band’s guitarist John LeCompt has been fired and drummer Rocky Gray has quit. “I’m done, and I’m pretty upset about it,” LeCompt said. “Amy Lee called and fired me today [Friday]. There’s absolutely no loyalty in this band.” Congratulations Brandon! Apparently Flowers and and his wife Tana, a teacher back in Las Vegas, are expecting their first child together, a boy. Tool Announce Plans to Hit the Road Summer 2009Photo: Grimwade/WireImage Last year was a quiet one for Tool, with frontman Maynard James Keenan concentrating on Puscifer and not much activity to follow up Tool’s 2006 album 10,000 Days. But the band’s vacation will end soon, as the Tool Website has revealed plans for a summer tour. No dates have been confirmed as yet, but “once they are finalized and official, we’ll be sure to announce them on the site,” the band writes. According to a press release announcing the performers at Denver’s Mile High Festival on July 18th and 19th, Tool are confirmed headliners. The announcement of the summer trek comes as a minor surprise, as Tool tour rumors have been buzzing about the Internet. Tool was last week mentioned by the Chicago Tribune as one of the bands possibly headlining this year’s Lollapalooza festival, so the fact that the band revealed plans to tour this summer lends credence to that theory. Plus, Tool took part in the 1993 and 1997 mobile Lollapaloozas, and with rumored headliners like Jane’s Addiction, the Killers, Beastie Boys and Kings of Leon all having previously played the fest through the years, Tool’s addition makes sense. The band’s last tour was an 18-month world-spanning jaunt that kicked off at April 2006’s Coachella Festival and wrapped up December 14th, 2007 in Las Vegas. In between, the quartet headlined a night at the 2007 Bonnaroo. If you really can’t wait until this summer to see Tool, there’s some good news: Keenan will be hosting a wine signing at the Whole Foods Market today, March 26th in Houston, Texas and tomorrow at a Whole Foods in San Antonio. The Tool site promises that the tour dates will be “posted soon,” so check back with Rock Daily soon for all the details.
