"Challengers" by The New PornographersIt still seems strange that The New Pornographers are more than one album into their career. 2000's Mass Romantic was so of its moment—a Canadian supergroup (a supposely one-off project of A.C. Newman, Neko Case and Destroyer's Dan Bejar) that took a mad scientist's approach to the indie-pop hook, sewing vocal and instrumental hooks into a single verse. But the group has been going strong for seven years now, and The New Pornographers continue to refine their approach on Challengers, their fourth and most cohesive album of accomplished, dynamic pop-craft yet. Challengers builds upon the melancholy that lurked behind 2005's Twin Cinema. Standout track "All the Old Showstoppers," with its careful acoustic chords and breathtaking melodic centerpiece, reads like a nostalgic glance back at the band's older songs, each of which seemed precision engineered to be as hands-in-the-air catchy as possible. Today's Pornographers are

Rilo Kiley Admit to Becoming Amateur Pornographers for “Moneymaker” VideoBe careful which porn flicks you audition for — you might inadvertently wind up in a Rilo Kiley video. The band’s indie pinup of a frontwoman, Jenny Lewis, has revealed the casting process for the band’s provocative clip for “Moneymaker,” the first single from Under the Blacklight, out August 21. “We told people they were coming in and auditioning for a porno,” the singer recalls. “We sat them down and asked them about their experiences. … We met some really interesting, nice people.” The whole process allowed Lewis to indulge one of her new interests: exploring her own increasingly loose attitudes about sex and music. “As a woman, the older I get the more comfortable I feel writing about sex and singing about it,” she explains. “Now I feel comfortable enough where I can start writing about sex — not necessarily about my own experiences, but the sexual lives of others. And the somewhat deviant sexual lives of others.”

“Rock Band” Reveals Full Song List: Pixies, NIN, Killers, Metallica, Rush, Clash, Who and More We’ve spent some time here at Rock Daily gushing about the all-around wonder of Harmonix’s latest music-based video game Rock Band (a.k.a. Guitar Hero for fake drummers, bassists and singers who actually have three other friends to “play music” with). In keeping with its near-perfect gameplay, the folks behind the title have finally revealed its near-perfect playlist. Besides the inclusion of Guitar Hero favorites like Kiss (”Detroit Rock City”), Deep Purple (”Highway Star”) and Nirvana (”In Bloom”), Rock Band also serves up tracks by Radiohead, Iron Maiden, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more for a total of forty-five tunes. For the vocalists, songs like Faith No More’s “Epic” and Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” will probably be the most challenging, and drumming along to the New Pornographers‘ “Electric Version” won’t prove so easy. The game is slated for release on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on November 20th, and there are a few more surprises in the form of thirteen additional songs that you can unlock as you rock. Check after the jump for the entire game tracklist. From the press release: Rock Band Set List: In addition to the 45 tracks listed below, Rock Band will also feature 13 songs ranging from a variety of established bands to up-and-coming independent artists that can be unlocked as you play through the game. 1960s Rolling Stones “Gimme Shelter” 1970s Aerosmith “Train Kept a Rollin’”* The Who “Won’t Get Fooled Again” Boston “Foreplay/Long Time” Mountain “Mississippi Queen”* The Police “Next to You” David Bowie “Suffragette City” Black Sabbath “Paranoid”* Blue Oyster Cult “Don’t Fear the Reaper” The Ramones “Blitzkrieg Bop” Deep Purple “Highway Star” KISS “Detroit Rock City” Molly Hatchet “Flirtin’ With Disaster” The Outlaws “Green Grass
